As a teacher I hear a lot of strange names, but the ‘vampire child’ was ‘obscene’
A TEACHER has revealed the worst name she’s ever encountered at school.
Many parents choose unique baby names to make their child feel different from the rest. This name, however, took the cake.
The teacher shared anonymously on social media which name baffled her while she was working in education.
And the name itself was based on vampire, but no, it wasn’t Dracula.
Instead, it appears that millennial parents took their inspiration from the cult teen film series, Twilight.
She said she often comes across strange names at school, but this one stood out.
She wrote: “I’m a teacher so I come across a lot of strange names.
“But recently I was called back when I was employed as a motorist.
“One of the children was called Renesmee(iykyk).
“I looked twice!”
The teacher was of course talking about the movie saga Twilight, in which main characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan give birth to a vampire/human hybrid named Renesmee Carlie Cullen.
“Who would have thought we had a vampire child in our midst???” she joked.
The teacher had shared her story on the Reddit forum NameNerdCirclejerk and people were quick to voice their opinions about the ‘obscene’ name.
Someone wrote: “Lord, when I read Twilight when I was 14 and they named the baby Renesme, I thought that was the dumbest s**t ever. To name your kid that is obscene.”
Another commented: “My daughter has twins in her class, Renee and Renesmae. I wish I was lying.”
“I have taught so many children named Bella, born between 2008 and 2013. It is horrible,” wrote a third.
The Rise of Twilight Names
Even though the film series ended years ago, names inspired by the characters from Twilight are still popular.
According to the U.S. Social Security Administration, the name Isabella (the name of the main character in the Twilight Saga) has risen five places in the charts since Stephanie Meyer’s vampire novels were published.
Other names from the vampire clan, including Edward, Alice, and Emmett, have all reached the top 100 on popular baby name websites.
Esme, the mother of vampires, is predicted to make her first appearance in the charts.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “We got my son’s yearbook this past summer and he has not one but two Khaleesis at school…”
“I’ve had a Renesmee in my class before! I watched it twice too,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Rene and Esme are Nice only names PICK ONE AHHH.”
