Attempt to derail Swatantrata Senani Express bound for Delhi, engine fails after collision with wooden log on track | India News – Times of India
LUCKNOW: In the early hours of Monday, towards Delhi Swatantrata Senani ExpressThe locomotive of the (12561) suffered a breakdown after it collided with a wooden log on the track between the locomotives of the cars. Ghazipur Ghat and Ghazipur City Railway Station. The block was dragged for almost half a kilometre before the express train came to a halt. The train was travelling at a speed of 100 kmph and managed to avoid the collision even after emergency braking.
After the incident, junior engineer of the railway, Nishant Kumar Singh FIR lodged at Sadar Kotwali in Ghazipur against an unknown person under Sections 150 of the Railway Act (offence of wilfully attempting to wreck or destroy a train) and 153 (any person who by an unlawful act endangers the safety of any person travelling on a railway track) and Sections 125 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) (any person who does an act so recklessly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others) and 285 (dangering or obstructing public road or waterway).
After the incident, the express train was delayed for two and a half hours and was pulled by another locomotive because the wooden beam had damaged the hose (the train’s braking system that works on air pressure).
Gyanendra Nath PrasadAdditional Commissioner of Police (ADP) Ghazipur said: “This was the second incident in the same area. On September 10, three men had laid gravel on the railway tracks and pelted stones at Prayagraj-Balli passengers. We arrested them the next day. We are investigating whether people from the same gang tried to sabotage the railway premises again at 3 am on Monday or whether someone else was involved in the vandalism.”
In a similar, heinous act of sabotage, two men, including the son of a farmer leader in Farrukhabad, were arrested by the police for attempting to derail the Kasganj-Farrukhabad passenger train (05389) by placing a wooden log on the Kanpur-Kasganj route between Bhatasa and Shamshabad railway stations on August 24.
On August 17, a 22-coach Sabarmati Express train, originally coming from Varanasi and en route to Ahmedabad, derailed near Kanpur after the locomotive collided with a three-foot-long, rusty piece of old rail.
On the evening of September 8, an attempt was made to Kalindi Express towards Bhiwani (14117) in Kanpur Nagar district. The locomotive of the train had hit an LPG-filled gas cylinder placed on the track between Barrajpur and Utripura on the Kanpur-Kasganj route. A Molotov cocktail was also found beside the track
