SRINAGAR: Political parties in J&K on Saturday expressed strong opposition to the Centre’s decision to give the LG more powers to take decisions on matters related to police and officers of the All-India Service.
National Conference and PDP said the decision would “disempower” the people of J&K.
North Carolina vice president Omar Abdullah said the people of J&K deserve better than a “powerless, tasteless” CM, who will have to beg the LG to appoint a pawn. “Therefore, a firm commitment with a timeline for the restoration of the complete, undiluted state of J&K is a precondition for these elections…,” he said.
Former CM and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said that Centre wants to further disempower the people of J&K through this new order. “The government wants to convert the JK assembly, which was once very powerful, into a municipality so that tomorrow a government in JK will not even have the power to transfer its own employee or take action against anyone,” Mufti said on X.
