Auburn, Sydney shooting: Driver shot on Mona Street, body found in Duck Creek
An innocent man was shot in the neck after a chaotic night in Sydney’s west, with the gunman later turning the gun on himself.
Police said the violence began when the man fired multiple shots into a house on Antwerp Street in Auburn just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.
After fleeing the scene, the man encountered a 55-year-old man sitting in his car on nearby Mona Street and attempted to get into the vehicle.
The man shot the driver in the neck and then fled to the banks of Duck Creek, where he tragically turned the gun on himself.
Police found his body just before 2:15 a.m. during a search of dense brush on the border of Granville South and Auburn.
A firearm was also found and seized as evidence.
“While the investigation is ongoing, the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” New South Wales police said in a statement.
‘There is no ongoing risk to the population.’
