The Australian racing community mourns for the death of trainer Ben Smith, who was only 42.

It comes as Smiths Ban of 13 months of sport – after he and one of his horses tested positively for a forbidden medicine -.

Daily Mail Australia understands that there are no suspicious circumstances behind the death of Smith.

Smith was located in Newcastle and was highly regarded under Fellow NSW Trainers.

His biggest performances were won in 2018 in group 1 races with in her time (The Galaxy) and El Dorado Dreaming (ATC Sires Produce Stakes).

Smith’s training career was subsequently sensational after he had spent a ban of three years and nine months after he was found guilty of Kobalt and charges by Racing NSW Stewards.

Smith resumed his training at the end of 2022 – but soon contradicted stewards, struck with a ban of 13 months in May last year.

It followed Smith himself – and one of his horses – who tested positively on forbidden substances.

Racing NSW stewards accused Smith of two separate violations, one of which was for the use of a forbidden substance while handling a horse.
