Australia Fair, Gold Coast: Man rushed to hospital after alleged stabbing at major shopping centre

A man has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed at a major shopping centre on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the Australia Fair shopping centre on Marine Parade in Southport at around 12.20pm on Friday.

A man in his early 40s was treated by paramedics for a wound to his chest and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The incident is said to have taken place in a public toilet near the Woolworths supermarket in the city centre, 9News reports.

At around 2:00 p.m., another man was seen being led away from the crime scene.

No one was immediately arrested.

Parts of the shopping centre remain cordoned off as police assess a crime scene.

Another crime scene has been established on nearby Welch St, across the road from the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

The venue is just across the road from the Gold Coast Show, which draws thousands of people to the Broadwater Parklands in temperatures of 31 degrees Celsius.

In March this year, a young woman was stabbed at the Pacific Fair shopping centre on the corner of Hooker Boulevard and Gold Coast Highway in Broadbeach.

The woman, in her twenties, was found with two stab wounds.

Serious knife incidents have also occurred in shopping centres in Melbourne and Sydney, including the gruesome deaths of six people at Westfield Bondi Junction in April.
