Australian café owner sparks intense debate after calling out a customer

An Australian café owner has lashed out at rude customers in a fiery video shared on social media.

Aisha, the co-founder of Café52 in southwest Sydney, spoke out after a customer left a negative review on Thursday.

‘So the other day, we had an a***hole who left us a bad review because we charged him $12 for two large mochas,’ she said.

‘This is our large,’ Aisha explained, holding an enormous takeaway cup. ‘Other cafes call it jumbo.

‘He also chose alternative milk, which is more expensive than normal milk.

‘Tell you what, next time, don’t buy from us. Go and buy from Maccas.

‘We haven’t changed our prices in over a year, and it’s industry-standard prices, so I don’t know what he’s not happy about.’

Aussies were divided about the café owner’s rant, with many calling her out.

‘I’ve given up buying coffee when I’m at a café, it’s far too expensive now.

‘People are all finding the cost of living expensive, best to keep the costs down and have more customers.’

A second agreed: ‘I’m so about café owners complaining about their costs.

‘That’s why I never, ever buy takeaway coffee from anywhere.

‘All cafes in Australia are price gouging because they think people will pay anything,’ another claimed.

Another added large, takeaway coffees in self-service style convenience stores such as 7/11 and Coles Express were far cheaper than those offered by the café.

Aisha hit back, and explained that the rising cost of living had also affected cafés.

‘As a small business, we’re not here to rip off our customers. We’re simply navigating the effects of inflation that impact cafes across the board,’ she said.

‘Rising costs in ingredients, labor, and overheads mean that our prices have to reflect these changes to maintain our quality and service.’

Many Aussies also jumped to Aisha’s defense.

‘You’re not just paying for the coffee. Service, rent, wages, electricity and everything else goes into it,’ one said.

‘All these comments about expensive coffees, obviously have never run a café or any business, the cost of everything, packaging, milk, electricity, gas has skyrocketed in the last two to three years,’ a second added.
