The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has sent a report from the data breach that those involved have uploaded attachments of the committee’s web forms on its site. This includes approximately 670 documents that “possibly were accessible”, the Committee confirms.
About 100 of these were actually accessible online, possibly by Bing Or Google – who led the committee to tackle the infringement.
“The committee takes the issue of privacy and data protection very seriously. It is crucial that people are able to safely share personal and sensitive information with the committee via our website. We sincerely apologize to people who can be affected. The committee contacts affected people for whom we have contact details to advise them.”
Personal information exposed
The infringement was not a result of malignant or criminal actions, although the details will be updated as the examinations continue. Web forms of the “Spring from Experience Project (March-September 2024), Human Rights Awards 2023 Nominations (3 July 2023-4 September 2023) and National Anti-Racism Framework Concept Paper (October 2021-Febrari 2022) were also hit by this data breach.”
Much of these include personal information of the affected, although it is not specifically clear what has been included. Allegedly all affected by the organization were informed by the organization.
