Australian Olympic hockey player ‘arrested on suspicion of cocaine purchase in Paris’

An Australian hockey player has been arrested on suspicion of selling cocaine in Paris.

Tom Craig, 28, was reportedly arrested on Wednesday night following a police operation in the northern Pigalle district of the French capital.

FranceInfo, a highly respected public broadcaster, reported that Craig “was arrested while (allegedly) in possession of about one gram of cocaine.”

According to local prosecutors, Craig was spotted “at the bottom of a building in the 9th arrondissement” shortly after midnight.

The source told FranceInfo: “Police have arrested two men in the middle of a transaction.”

The investigation was carried out by the Paris police narcotics squad.

In a statement, the Australian Olympic Committee said it “has confirmed that a member of the Australian hockey team was arrested in Paris on 6 August and has been detained”.

“No charges have been filed,” the report said.

‘The AOC continues to investigate and arrange support for the team member.’

It is not known whether the arrested athlete is male or female, but both Australian teams, the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras, were eliminated from the quarter-finals earlier this week.

It is also unknown how much cocaine the athlete is said to have purchased.

More to come.
