MUMBAI: A doctor from the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where Baba Siddique was taken after being shot, says the first Minister of Maharashtra probably died before being transferred to the medical facility. Siddique was unconscious when he was taken to Lilavati Hospital on Saturday evening after being shot. Doctors tried to save him for almost two hours but in vain, he said.
The former Maharashtra minister probably died before being shifted to a medical facility, a doctor at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital said on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday evening, Siddique was unconscious when he was taken to Lilavati Hospital after being shot. The doctor added that doctors tried to save him for almost two hours.
NCP leader Baba Siddique (66) was attacked and shot by three men near his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra area on Saturday evening.
He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Doctors who spoke to reporters on Saturday evening said: “There were two gunshot wounds to the front of his chest. There was a lot of blood loss and he was unconscious when his relatives took him to hospital.”
When asked if Baba Siddique had died before reaching the hospital, one of the doctors said, “It is possible. There was no response from him when he was brought in. He was unconscious. We undertook CPR but Siddique was declared dead at 11.27am. o’clock on Saturday.”
Doctors tried to revive him for almost two hours. They first treated him in the emergency room and then transferred him to the intensive care unit. They confirmed that no cardiac activity was detected.
As for other possible injuries, doctors said the autopsy would determine the exact number and nature of wounds. They stated: “We did not have time to check how many gunshot-related wounds there were. The post-mortem will reveal further details.”
