KOCHI: A baby elephant who fell into a well in a village bordering a forest area in Ernakulam district was rescued by his mother on Wednesday, police here said. The incident occurred on private property in the Illothode area of Malaysian.
Footage broadcast by news channels showed the mother elephant rescuing her baby from the well and reuniting with the herd of wild elephants waiting nearby. Police said the baby elephant fell into the well in the morning and the herd remained nearby. When local residentsAs police and rangers surrounded the area, the mother elephant stepped forward and lifted her baby out of the pit.
After the successful rescue, the herd of wild elephants returned to the forest. Meanwhile, locals protested against the forest guards, accusing them of failing to address the ongoing threat of wild elephants in the area.
