Ban on liquor and non-vegetarian food imposed at Katra base camp, Vaishno Devi
NEW DELHI: Authorities have banned the sale, possession and consumption of liquor and non-vegetarian food Katrathe base camp for Vaishno Devi pilgrims in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The ban, which takes effect from Wednesday, also extends to the 12-kilometer path leading to the sacred cave on Trikuta Hill and surrounding areas, officials said.
Katra Sub-Divisional Magistrate Piyush Dhotra issued the order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The ban includes items such as eggs, chicken, mutton and seafood and will remain in effect for two months unless revoked sooner.
The ban applies to villages within two kilometers on either side of the pilgrimage path and within 200 meters of major roads, including the Katra-Jammu road and the Katra-Reasi road. Areas such as Chamba, Serli, Bhagta, Kundrorian, Kotli Bajallian, Nomain and Maghal villages, as well as the railway station and Panthal-Domail road, are also covered by the order.
