Barack and Michelle Obama share gushing anniversary tributes as they mark 30 YEARS of marriage

Barack and Michelle Obama have officially been married for 30 years, and to celebrate the occasion, the couple shared gushing anniversary tributes to one another on Instagram – while also posting some never-before-seen snaps of themselves on vacation. 

The former President, 61, and First Lady, 58, tied the knot on October 3, 1992 – and now, three decades later, they’re still going strong.

Each of them took to their respective accounts to commemorate the achievement on Monday, with Barack writing that he ‘couldn’t have asked for a better life partner’ in a heartfelt message to his wife.

Michelle also took to Instagram to share a loving note to her husband, in which she called their relationship an 'adventure'

His post included a series of photos that showed him and his wife-of-30 years looking as happy as could be together.

One featured them on a beach in Hawaii. While it appears that they were taken recently, it’s unclear when the trip took place.

Barack rested his head on Michelle’s shoulder in the sweet snap, as they sat together on a rock.

Michelle donned a pair of tan sweatpants and a white T-shirt, while Obama looked comfortable in khaki trousers and a long-sleeve black polo shirt.

Another picture showed them posing together on the day they tied the knot.

The newlyweds both smiled from ear to ear in the black-and-white picture, as Michelle donned a stunning, white, V-neck wedding gown, with off-the-shoulder sleeves, intricate floral embellishments, and a big bow in the back.

She paired the look with a white veil and sparkling diamond earrings. Barack, for his part, opted for a black tuxedo with a white bowtie.

Michelle also took to Instagram to share a loving note to her husband, in which she called their relationship an ‘adventure.’

‘Happy anniversary to the man I love,’ she gushed. ‘These last 30 years have been an adventure, and I’m grateful to have you by my side. Here’s to a lifetime together. I love you, @BarakObama.’

Her post included another picture of her and Barack from the Hawaii trip. This time they stood in the sand, as both held onto their shoes and grinned towards the camera.

Barak and Michelle first met in 1989 at a Chicago law firm, called Sidley Austin, in which they both worked at.

She had already been working there, and when Barack started, she was asked to show him the ropes.

‘Because I went to Harvard and he went to Harvard, and the firm thought, “Oh, we’ll hook these two people up,”‘ she explained to ABC.

Barack also opened up about the day they first met to Oprah Magazine in 2007, stating, ‘In the luckiest break of my life, [Michelle] was assigned to be my adviser. I remember being struck by how tall and beautiful she was.’

It’s been said that the former President quickly became smitten with Michelle, but she was uninterested.

‘I asked her out. She refused. I kept asking. She kept refusing,’ he told Oprah. 

‘In my experience, you put a suit on any half-intelligent black man and white people tended to go bonkers,’ Michelle recalled in her 2018 memoir, Becoming. 

‘I was doubtful he’d earned the hype. Not once did I think about him as someone I’d want to date. For one thing, I was his mentor at the firm.

‘I’d also recently sworn off dating altogether, too consumed with work to put any effort into it.’

He eventually convinced her to go on a date with, however – they had lunch, saw a movie, and got ice cream at Baskin Robbins, and the two quickly hit it off.

They soon entered into a relationship, and Barak then proposed to Michelle during dinner in 1991; they were celebrating Barack’s passing of the bar exam, when he popped the question.

‘The waiter came over with the dessert and a tray. And there was the ring,’ Michelle remembered to ABC, adding that she was ‘completely shocked.’

They officially became husband and wife the following year at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

They went on to welcome two daughters together, Malia, 24, and Sasha, 21.

It’s unclear if the pair is spending their anniversary together; Michelle has been in New York City recently while Barack was on the West Coast visiting their daughters.

As for Michelle, she has been spotted numerous times in the Big Apple over the last few weeks. Most recently, she was caught arriving to The Mark hotel for the Justice Albie Awards afterparty on Thursday evening.

While Michelle and Barack seem like the epitome of a perfect couple, the former First Lady previously admitted that they have had their share of problems too.

‘There were times that I wanted to push Barack out of the window. And I say that because it’s like, you’ve got to know the feelings will be intense,’ she admitted on a 2020 episode of her podcast.

‘But that doesn’t mean you quit. And these periods can last a long time. They can last years.’
