Barrie Drewitt-Barlow reveals plans to treat new grandson to a HELICOPTER
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, one of Britain’s first gay fathers, recently welcomed his second granddaughter and it looks like he already has big shopping plans.
His daughter Saffron Drewitt-Barlow, 24, announced the birth of her son on Instagram on Friday after a “complicated” delivery.
And proud father and grandfather Barrie was quick to congratulate Saffron and her husband Connor on their new addition.
Sharing snapshots of Connor Jr. on InstagramBarrie wrote: “My baby girl gave birth to her second child this weekend. I want to post it straight away but I wanted Saffron and her husband Connor to announce it before I did.
“Anyway, here he is, Connor Jr, “CJ” as we will call him! He was born a month early and is currently in Broomfield Hospital Chelmsfords’, NICU, where the wonderful nursing staff have been caring for her and the baby 24 hours a day.
“Many complications over the last 2 weeks meant she needed an emergency c-section but I am so pleased to report that mother and baby are doing well, thanks to the brilliant care of the wonderful staff at Broomfield.🎉 (sic)”
After praising the hospital, Barrie said he had big plans for himself and his grandson.
“I can’t wait to buy these!” he continued.
“Maybe a helicopter OR to start his investment portfolio, a nice apartment in London!! Watch this space ………. (sic)”
The Manchester-born businessman is no stranger to extravagant gifts for his family.
The last time Saffron gave birth to daughter Marina was in June last year. Her father celebrated the news of their family expansion with a gift.
Barrie gave his eldest daughter a Range Rover worth £200,000 as a promotional gift.
And Barrie, who is worth a whopping £200million, previously revealed he has gifted little Marina a £1million house, which they will rent out to provide little Marina with an income.
According to the business magnate, Marina also received a luxury Dior stroller worth £5,000 from Saffron’s brother Aspen.
Who are Tony and Barrie Drewitt-Barlow?
BARRIE Drewitt-Barlow and ex-husband Tony were Britain’s first gay fathers. They had twins, a boy and a girl, through surrogacy.
The couple met in 1987 when Tony stopped at a petrol station in Manchester to ask for directions.
Tony had won second prize in the New Scientist of the Year Award at the time.
The couple went to court to get permission to list same-sex parents on birth certificates as “parent one” and “parent two” instead of “mother and father.” It was a landmark case for the LGBTQ community.
Saffron and Aspen were conceived using the eggs of one woman, Tracie McCune, and were then carried in the womb of another woman, Rosalind Bellany.
Although Barrie and Tony both have a child, they have never revealed which father is the biological father of which twins, as they want to be equal parents.
They have made their money from various business ventures, including a transatlantic surrogacy business and a global medical research company. They also make money from real estate.
The couple split in 2019 after Barrie confirmed he was in love with his daughter Saffron’s ex, Scott.
Saffron and her husband Conor got married in Vegas last year and are moving to Miami for a while, but it seems they have moved back to Manchester to be closer to their family.
The brunette beauty, who made headlines when she and her twin brother Aspen became the UK’s first children with two fathers and no mother, shared their joyous news on Instagram on Friday.
She wrote: “Conor Junior Drewitt-Barlow-Tucker.”
“We are so in love with you, darling.”
The little boy was named after his father and was born in Essex.
