Basti BBQ 5.0: Arjun Meghe brings joy and community spirit to the underprivileged of Worli on Children’s Day | India News – Times of India
Held opposite the Campa Cola Compound, this year’s event transformed the neighborhood into a vibrant carnival with music, food and activities, putting smiles on the faces of children who rarely have access to such experiences.
A lively carnival of light and solidarity
The Maya Nagar basti came alive with the festive setup of Basti BBQ 5.0. The space was decorated with colorful lights, vibrant food stalls, a stage for performances and a stage for interactive games. Speakers played cheerful music and created a festive atmosphere. Children and their parents joined in the festivities and filled the evening with energy and excitement.
Organized by Insaniyat Association, a non-profit organization aimed at bringing lasting change through social development, this annual event serves as a unique initiative to bring joy to underprivileged children on Children’s Day. For many families, it has become a cherished tradition: a day to connect with neighbors, enjoy a vibrant community spirit and create lasting memories.
Tokens of joy: A culinary feast
A highlight of Basti BBQ 5.0 was the food, generously provided by sponsors. Each child received free tokens to redeem at stalls selling premium treats from brands such as Baskin Robbins (ice creams), Trufalafel (falafels), Toast Donut Shop (doughnuts), Lil Gamby (pizza), Maroosh (sandwiches) and The Juice Co ( juices). The excitement on their faces spoke volumes.
“Basti BBQ is a celebration of community, and I am grateful to our sponsors who have not only lent their support, but also recognized the importance of coming together for a meaningful purpose. Their participation reflects the spirit of giving and belonging that defines this event. It is encouraging to see how these brands have embraced the vision and spirit of Basti BBQ, making it possible to create joy and lasting memories for these children and their families,” said Meghe.
Interactive games and community spirit
In addition to food, this year’s Basti BBQ was packed with activities designed to bring people together. Interactive games for the children often included audience participation, drawing cheers and laughter from the crowd. Parents also joined in, adding to the lively atmosphere and enhancing the sense of community of the event.
Art and face painting stations allowed children to explore their creativity through drawing and painting, while live music and performances kept everyone entertained. The lively atmosphere created a space where children and their families could leave their worries behind, if only for a few hours.
A tradition rooted in compassion
For five years, Basti BBQ has been a cornerstone of Worli’s Children’s Day celebrations. Started by the Insaniyat Association under the leadership of Arjun Meghe, the event has grown into a large-scale initiative that highlights the power of compassion and community. For the less fortunate children of Worli and their families, Basti BBQ has become more than just a festive evening; it has become a rare opportunity to experience the joy and carefree happiness that are often taken for granted. Many of these children face daily hardships, but their resilience and optimism shine through as they laugh, play and dance.
“Every year, Basti BBQ reminds me of the incredible power of community,” said Meghe. “Every child deserves to feel seen, valued and celebrated. Basti BBQ is our way of telling them that they matter, and that their happiness is important. It’s a small effort, but the memories it creates last long after the event.”
Proudly the fifth edition
The fifth edition of Basti BBQ marked an important milestone for the Insaniyat Association and its mission to create lasting change through social development. The event continues to inspire others to take a step forward and contribute to building a more inclusive and compassionate society. With its festive lights, lively music and cheerful community spirit, Basti BBQ 5.0 once again proved the power of collective kindness. As the evening came to a close, the smiles and laughter from the children and their families lingered – a testament to the success of the event and its growing legacy.
