Beauty guru reveals how to prevent your hands from looking wrinkled and old
HANDS can stay wrinkle-free and youthful for years if you take good care of your skin, an expert says.
She shared must-try tips to tackle the visible signs of aging on the hands, such as bulging veins, cracked cuticles and age spots.
Karen J. Gerrard is a skincare expert and founder of the UK-based brand Seams Beauty Hand Care.
Her beauty products are specially designed to moisturize, soften and protect the hands while strengthening the nails.
Speaking to The US Sun, she revealed that an effective hand cream isn’t the only thing needed to keep hands looking youthful.
STOP SAGGING
Gerrard revealed that the hands are the first part of our body to age because the skin on them is thinner.
She said it’s “easy” to slow the signs of aging on the hands, but it’s necessary to moisturize the skin at least three times a day.
She recommended her Seams hand cream, which is formulated with 10 natural ingredients.
“Seams keep the skin firm, help heal minor cuts and prevent the aging effects of dry skin,” she said.
She said you should also massage your hands throughout the day to stimulate circulation, which will make them look fuller.

“Another tip to make your hands look younger as you age is to keep your nails shorter,” she said.
“Wear a light color nail polish and wear much shorter hand jewelry nails.”
Creative hobbies can also help keep your hands in good condition.
“Handicrafts like kitting keep your hands dexterous and flexible, making you less likely to develop arthritis or other age-related ailments,” she said.
Gerrard revealed that there is a “strong link” between diet and skin health, which is why three vitamins should be consumed routinely.
“Taking vitamin A will help thicken the skin, making it less likely to sag and develop wrinkles,” she said.
“Vitamin B7 nourishes the skin with fatty acids that keep the skin smooth and closed to prevent moisture loss.
“Vitamin C is an antioxidant and can help reduce wrinkles and fade pigmentation. Research has shown that it actually brightens up the skin.”
REDUCE DAMAGE
Gerrard said it’s “very difficult” to reverse the signs of aging on the hands once they’ve occurred because they’re mostly bone, but it’s not impossible.
Drink plenty of water, especially in the morning when you first wake up, to get your hands moving again.

She advised plumping the skin by getting enough moisture.
“If you pinch the skin on your hand and it doesn’t go back right away, you’re dehydrated and your skin can become saggy,” she said.
“Drink lots of water, especially when you first wake up in the morning, to give your hands a boost.”
She said that wrinkles on the hands can also be reduced with a salon treatment.
“Radio frequency delivers heat deep into the hands to firm loose skin,” she said.
“Transferring fat to the hands will increase collagen production, plump the skin and keep the hands soft and supple, but it will only last for a few years.”

She added that gloves should be worn when washing and cleaning to “protect against the chemicals” in cleaning products and the “drying effects” of water.
“Keeping your cuticles hydrated and smooth protects the new nail growing underneath, helping it grow healthy and strong, reducing the chance of vertical age lines,” she says.
Gerrard said bulging veins require a hand specialist to perform sclerotherapy to improve their appearance.
The treatment consists of injecting a sclerosing solution into the veins, causing them to collapse.
Microdermabrasion, laser therapy and chemical peels are some of the professional beauty treatments available to minimize age spots.
However, you can also use a skin whitening cream at home for visible results.
