Rea Ann Silvathe founder and CEO of Beautyblender, worked with a number of celebrities before becoming the queen of beauty sponges.

She was a pioneer of professional makeup in the early era of high-definition film and television.

“I had to mix and manipulate makeup products to create my own formulas that looked natural and lasted all day on set,” she told The US Sun.

“Back then we didn’t have the shade diversity that we have now.

“Our current Beautyblender complexion products are formulated based on my years of experience on set with every skin type and tone.

“With each new product launch, I have been able to complete my makeup journeys on set, which are the result of my 20+ years of experience as an artist.”

WHAT SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT YOU DO WITH MAKE-UP?

Rea Ann shared tips on how to get the most out of cosmetics, including which products to avoid.

“Always moisturize,” she said. “Just like your skin, you need to moisturize your Beautyblender. Always use it damp. Wet it, squeeze it, and bounce it. Bounce the Beautyblender on your skin.

“Wash your Beautyblender after use with our Blendercleanser [it] to prevent bacterial growth and extend the life of your sponge.”

Rea Ann explains what to look for when using her iconic sponge.

“Don’t use dry makeup,” she said. “Don’t waste your makeup.”

She assured that while the product is versatile, there is a rule that one must adhere to when using it.

“There’s really no wrong way to use a Beautyblender,” she said.

“Don’t pull on your skin or tug on your Beautyblender, especially around the eyes. Bounce, bounce, bounce.”

The makeup mogul has also developed her own beauty tricks to make her skin glow.

My favorite Sephora makeup products are all under $20 and sometimes as low as $10.99. I can’t live without the beautyblender.

“Make sure you drink enough fluids and get plenty of sleep,” she said.

“Wear SPF. A fun tip I always share is that you can use your Beautyblender to apply and reapply your sunscreen throughout the day so it doesn’t interfere with your makeup.

“Skin prep is key. Make sure you take the time to properly prep your skin with skincare and primers — it will make all the difference.

“Always apply your foundation with a damp Beautyblender. People forget to wet their Beautyblender, but it’s so important.

“This makes the product melt into your skin and gives you a beautiful, natural look.

“Fixing your makeup with a fixing spray makes all the difference.”

She recommended the Boost 4-in-1 Firming Peptide 18-Hour Setting Spray, which sells for $33 through Beautyblender, for long-lasting makeup.

Rea Ann added that she developed Beautyblender as a replacement for the heavier airbrush makeup tools.

“Beautyblender is designed to replace my airbrush machine on set,” she said.

“It is very important to have prepped, balanced skin before applying any complexion products. This will prevent creasing and clumping and will help your makeup last longer throughout the day.

“I like to use SPF under my foundation — something lightweight. If you struggle with your skin texture, a makeup primer will help even out your skin’s texture and extend its wear.”

Rea Ann shares her step-by-step routine for the perfect makeup look.

“One of the most important steps in my makeup routine is prepping my skin with Beautyblender’s Boost Firming and Smoothing Peptide + Ceramide Primer,” she said.

“This provides a smooth base and I don’t have to worry about my makeup creasing or getting cakey throughout the day.

“My makeup routine is very simple: I always choose concealer or a thin layer of foundation and blend it with a damp Beautyblender Original Pink Makeup Sponge.

“In the warmer months I use our Bounce Always On Radiant Skin Tint, which stays on for 12 hours and is hydrating.

“I also can’t live without my Blotterazzi. I keep it in my bag and use it throughout the day to touch up and reset my makeup.

“Finally, I fix my look with Boost 4-in-1 Firming Peptide 18-Hour.”

NEWEST AND BIGGEST

When it comes to makeup sponges, Beautyblender has always been a leader, moving from traditional products to different sizes to reach every nook and cranny.

One of these is the Micro Mini Makeup Sponge, $18 for a set of two, which can be used to conceal problem areas like the undereye area.

“The inspiration for the Micro Mini Makeup Sponge came from my experience as a makeup artist,” she said.

“I developed the Micro Mini to not only reach the specific areas where I want to apply makeup, but I also realized that most people have sensitive eyes and the size of the device makes it easier for you and them.

“Beautyblender is ideal for blending large areas all over the face.

“Micro Mini is very small and can be applied in a targeted manner, for example to precisely blend under the eyes and around the nose, and to cover acne and blemishes.”

Rea Ann also spoke enthusiastically about working with her daughter on new projects.

“I have found it a great privilege to work with my daughter Erica,” she said.

“As a single mother, she has always witnessed my career as a makeup artist and founder, and has been very involved as she helped formulate products when I first launched the brand.

“Erica is a multi-talent and helps us with the development of new products, social media, content creation and basically anything you can think of.”
