Former child star Benji Gregory has died at the age of 46.

Gregory, best known for his role as Brian Tanner on the sitcom ALF, which ran from 1986 to 1990, was found dead in his car, along with his service dog, Hans, in a Chase Bank parking lot in Peoria, Arizona, on June 13.

Gregory’s sister Rebecca told TMZ Gregory suffered from depression, bipolar disorder and a sleep disorder that left him ‘often awake for days’.

However, people who know him well believe that on June 12, he went to the bank to deposit the remainder of his checks and fell asleep in his car. He died of heatstroke.

The Maricopa County coroner has not yet determined a cause of death.

ALF ran for four seasons, airing from September 22, 1986 to March 24, 1990. The series also starred Max Wright, Anne Schedeen and Andrea Elson.

The NBC sitcom centers on the Tanner family, a middle-class suburban California family who take ALF into their home, where Tanner ends up living in their garage.

The series shows how the Tanner family tries their best to hide the alien from curious neighbors and government agencies.

The famous puppeteer was played by director Paul Fusco.

Gregory was born in Los Angeles in 1978. His father, uncle and sister are also all actors.

He has appeared in TV series such as Fantastic Max, The A-Team, TJ Hooker and The Twilight Zone.

He made several appearances on the television series Punky Brewster, playing the orphan Dash.

Gregory retired from acting in 2003 and enlisted in the United States Navy.

He was stationed on the USS Carl Vinson and was honorably discharged in 2005 for medical reasons.

In 2006, he married Sarah, but it is not known whether they were still together when he died.

His sister Rebecca has suggested making a donation on her brother’s behalf to The Actors Equity Foundation or the ASPCA.
