Many would argue that the Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Ultra 2 are among the best smartwatches available right now. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 sits at the very top of the pyramid, and while deals aren’t always easy to come by, you don’t always have to pay the full $799 asking price. Unfortunately, the OG Apple Watch Ultra is hard to come by these days, but it’s still a great option if you can find one in stock and for the right price.
Apple is locked in an ongoing legal battle with the U.S. International Trade Commission over a patent dispute with a company called Masimo regarding its blood oxygen sensor technology. That means Apple can no longer ship Apple Watches with the blood oxygen sensor, so unless it’s specifically listed at the point of sale, your new Apple Watch won’t have it.
Both devices are rugged versions of Apple’s popular smartwatch with some added features for power users and athletes. The first-generation Apple Watch Ultra and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 aren’t all that far apart in terms of specs, and you may be able to score a deal on the original, now-discontinued device before supplies run out.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2, released in September 2023, is Apple’s most advanced smartwatch yet. While retaining the overall design of its predecessor, it gets a new S9 chip for faster speeds and better battery efficiency, plus there’s a new, extra-bright display.
Athletes will benefit from more advanced metrics for running and cycling, and the increased altitude range is a boon for hikers and divers. Battery life is still the longest in the Apple Watch lineup at 36 hours per charge, or up to 72 hours in low power mode.
Amazon is currently offering a massive $99 discount on the Apple Watch Ultra 2, but these prices can often vary wildly, so that price could change soon. Double-check the exact configuration you want to buy before ordering elsewhere.
