‘Best jeans I’ve owned’ mums rave about Tu by Sainsbury’s £22 wide leg pair
SAINSBURY shoppers were full of praise for the brand’s TU wide leg jeans.
Mums shared rave reviews of the stylish trousers, calling them ‘the most comfortable’ pair they’ve ever owned.
In one after on Mumsnet, a user shared the struggle she had finding affordable jeans.
“I’m trying to find wide leg jeans. I fell in love with these from Me&Em but they are so expensive,” she wrote.
She asked her fellow moms if they had come across “something similar at a less eye-watering price.”
Although her post received dozens of comments, a clear favorite emerged.
The £22 Dark Wash Ultra Wide-Leg Denim Jeans from Tu by Sainsbury’s received numerous mentions in the comments section.
“These are wide and very cheap from Tu,” wrote one Sainsbury’s customer.
“They are very good quality for the price.”
When the original poster shared her concerns that the jeans had too low a rise, other buyers were quick to reassure her.
“I have those Tu ones and they are high-waisted, at least on me. They are actually very nice,” said one woman.
“I got mine from Tu by Sainsbury’s, [they’re] high waist and possibly the most comfortable jeans I have ever worn,” wrote another Mumsnet user.
“I got this last week and I’m in love!” said a recent Tu convert.
“They are so comfortable and true to size. [They’re] a bargain for jeans.”
Another woman appeared to be a long-time fan of the brand, revealing that she had “lived in £18 Tu ones for years”.
Tu shoppers also shared their thoughts on the wide-leg look in the site’s reviews section.
The jeans received a near-perfect rating of 4.8 out of five stars, with 97% of shoppers saying they would recommend them.
Why is it so hard to find the perfect jeans…
Deputy fashion editor Abby Mchale has revealed why it’s so hard to find the perfect pair of jeans…
If there’s one piece of clothing you can never easily buy, it’s jeans.
If you think your size is right after you’ve found the perfect fit, nine times out of ten the next time you go to buy a pair, you’ll probably still have to try before you buy.
But what about jeans makes them so difficult to fit?
Well, there is no universal size chart that every retailer adheres to, so this means that a size 12 from one brand can be an inch or so different from another brand and that can make all the difference.
Plus, it’s all about the denim: some jeans are made of stiffer denim so they don’t give as much.
While some stretch denims obviously have more stretch, meaning they can be more forgiving.
However, remember that all denim eventually stretches, so if you are trying on a pair of jeans and they feel slightly tight, remember that they will actually give after wear.
Unfortunately, this means the best advice is to just try them on, but if you’re short on time or don’t feel like it, the Japanese jeans test I’ve found works quite effectively.
Wrap the waistband of the jeans around your neck. If it wraps all the way around and leaves no gap, then it should fit your waist.
“I wore them to the office today and… [I got] so many additions!” wrote one woman.
“[They’re] so soft, but actually looks and feels like jeans, super flattering, more colors please!”
Another customer said the Tu purchase was the “best pair of jeans I’ve ever owned.”
“I ordered them, I tried them on, I wore them – that’s never happened in the long history of buying jeans. It’s going to be a stock buy!” she said.
“I’m so happy these are back, great fit, great length, super comfortable,” said a third buyer.
“I love these, they are super comfortable and the denim feels so soft and light,” another commenter wrote.
“I love these jeans, the denim is soft and fits perfectly, not too high in the waist but they hold everything together,” said one woman.
“I always find the perfect jeans at Tu and these do not disappoint!” another fan commented.
“I’ve already worn them on a night out and they fit perfectly! They look so flattering on a pear-shaped lady!”
The wide-leg jeans are available in sizes eight to size 22, in sizes short, normal and long.
Abby’s best tips
If a brand offers both Fit Analytics and a size chart, check both for a clearer idea of which size to order.
Remember, buying jeans online may be just a click of a button, but if they don’t fit you, you have the less convenient problem of having to return them. And some brands, including Zara, only offer free returns to the store.
Some brands ask for measurements in inches, others in centimeters – so write down both! Your waist circumference
is the smallest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button, and your hip circumference is the widest point of your hips.
Measure yourself every time you need to buy a new pair of jeans – compare it to buying a new bra. Your weight can fluctuate often, so what you were six months ago may not be what you are today.
