Is Labor Day a Good Time to Buy a TV?

If you’re in the market for a new TV, Labor Day is a great time to shop. Multiple retailers are offering discounts on a wide range of models and sizes, giving you a top-notch selection to choose from at great prices. Plus, after Labor Day is over, there’s no other major holiday shopping event until Black Friday, so you may have to wait a little longer for another great deal.

How much should you spend on a TV?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. The most important things to consider when shopping for a TV are your needs and your budget. While there are plenty of cheap TV deals to shop around, some of those models won’t offer all the features that a more premium model might. Additionally, if you want an OLED screen, it will cost significantly more than LED and other models.

Size also plays a role in how much you spend, but for a standard entertainment space like a living room, you’ll probably want to invest in a TV that’s at least 55 inches, though 65 inches or larger is best in most cases. For bedrooms, you should opt for a model that’s at least 43 inches.

If you’re going to splash out, spending more on a bigger screen will likely make the biggest impact, giving you more bang for your buck. You can check out our TV buying guide if you want more information before you buy.

How We Pick the Best Labor Day TV Deals

Many of us here at CNET have been covering shopping events for more than five years, including Black Friday, Prime Day, Memorial Day and countless others. In that time, we’ve learned how to sift through thousands of superficial deals and scams, surfacing only the best offers from trusted retailers. We look for real discounts, quality reviews and remaining sales time when choosing which TV deals to show you.

  • Real discounts mean real savings. We check the price history of products listed as on sale so we know when it’s a case of an inflated list price rather than a real discount.
  • Quality reviews and testing are super important for any product. A discount isn’t worth it if it results in a sub-par product experience, no matter how much you saved.
  • The remaining sale time is also important. Some deals are short-lived or limited in stock. If that’s the case, we’ll let you know in advance so you don’t come back to the deal later and be disappointed.
