Anthony Drew has revealed why he betrayed his ex-girlfriend Tully Smyth on the latest season of Big Brother Australia.

The 33-year-old told the TV reload podcast, he sent Tully packing because she “served no purpose” for his game plan.

He also revealed that the feeling was mutual, noting that she was “not happy” to see him in the house in the first place.

Drew and Tully were the center of a scandal during the 2013 season when they began dating in the house, despite having a girlfriend on the outside.

Amid a flood of negative headlines, they dated a few months after the cameras stopped spinning before they shut down.

During his extended interview, Drew told host and former Big Brother winner Benjamin Norris that no love was lost between the exes.

‘I spoke to Tully recently; she wasn’t happy I was there in the first place,’ he said. “She gave me a little spray on her podcast, which is fine. She has her little platform to go off.

“She wasn’t happy I was there. She wanted her chance at redemption to be shown in a different light [without focusing on] a mistake she made nine years ago.”

Drew then took a swipe at Tully by saying that she “may not have been asked back” on Big Brother had it not been for their affair nine years ago.

He also revealed that they had very different personalities in the house, which inevitably led to conflict.

Tully is like the feelings police. She’s hypersensitive; I am undersensitive. She would just hang on to being myself, and try to get others involved,” he said.

“She was constantly trying to make me look bad or heartless, like my gameplay was wrong. Ultimately it’s smart, but it’s still gameplay.’

He went on to say, ‘At that point in the game [when I voted her out] she was a fairly easy target, she feasted on many novices. Those are just easy choices.’

Drew also made it clear that Tully was just as determined to win as he was.

“She played her hand. She came to me and said, “One of my goals was to beat you.” And what did that do to me? I wanted to beat her,” he said.

‘The way I behaved was within the constructs and boundaries of a game; That’s not how I behave in real life.

“I don’t care if people want to believe that or not, because they’re not the people in my life.”

Speaking about his decision to vote for his former flame, he said, “I had no alliance with Tully; she served no purpose for my game.’

“Yeah, I looked her in the face and said, ‘I got you,’ but she wouldn’t let me. This was a competition, this was not real life,’ he continued.

He also revealed that his on-screen and off-screen personas were “completely different.”

Drew from Big Brother has been around from the moment I entered the house to the moment I left the house. My personal life, all those details… I’m not interested in that [in the house]†

He also brushed aside the reactions he’d gotten from viewers, saying, “People aren’t picking up on the mean people or the villains or whatever it’s called.

“If everyone just got along, it would be damn boring.
