‘Big disappointment’: Congress member Selja on Haryana poll results | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: After initial trends suggested the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government in Haryana for the third time, Congress MP Kumari Selja on Tuesday said the outcome was a “huge disappointment”.
Without naming anyone, Shelja, in a veiled attack while speaking to reporters, said the outcome would not be “business as usual.”
Expressing her disappointment over Haryana’s election result, Selja said, “The results are disappointing. Until morning we were hopeful. All our workers are angry, they have worked for the Congress party for the last ten years and if such a result comes, there is a huge disappointment. We will have to make a fresh start and reflect on the shortcomings. We will have to see who is responsible for such an outcome…”
She also said that the high command should work out a plan to revive the party in Haryana and identify those responsible for such results. “This will not be ‘business as usual’. The Congress must identify those who rejected the attempts to bring the party to power after a decade,” she added.
In the Haryana elections, the trends showed that the ruling BJP has crossed the majority mark in the Haryana Assembly, while the Congress won 31 seats and was leading at 5 to 5.30 p.m.
The intense election campaigns of senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, could not yield the desired results for the opposition party.
Earlier in the day, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed concern over the slow pace of updating the latest trends in vote counting of the Haryana Assembly elections on the Election Commission website.
The ECI in its official response has refuted these allegations and confirmed that the vote counting process is being conducted in accordance with Article 60 of the Rules of Electoral Conduct. The committee said, “With reference to your Memorandum today on the delay in updating Haryana results on the ECI website, it is reiterated that the entire counting process in Haryana and JK is unfolding in the presence of candidates, observers and micro- observers. According to the legal scheme, there is nothing known to support your unfounded claim about the delay in updating the results.
The ECI also pointed out that the Congress had raised similar concerns during the 2024 general elections, which were also rejected. The committee emphasized that the counting process was carried out efficiently and with full transparency. Moreover, the ECI noted that Ramesh’s memorandum did not provide any concrete evidence to support the claims of delays in a particular constituency.
