CoralApp, an AI-focused project backed by Binance, is gearing up to enter the hyper-competitive smartphone market in the coming days. The company has conceptualized a smartphone, dubbed the Coral Phone, packed with Web3 and AI capabilities. While the device will support traditional smartphone features and apps, it will also be able to work seamlessly with decentralized applications (dApps), decentralized finance (DeFi), and decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePINs).

Details about Coral Phone

Currently there are a estimated 6.84 billion smartphones worldwide and the number is expected to reach 7.1 billion soon. With its Web3-centric smartphone, CoralApp aims to push technologies like DeFi, GameFi and SocialFi to the masses.

The Coral Phone is designed to provide direct access to decentralized apps, allow users to experience native on-chain games, and let users store their personal wallet keys in the built-in Coral Vault, CoralApp said on the official website.

“Coral Phone offers a comprehensive set of features that allow users to explore, interact with, and thrive in the decentralized digital landscape. From seamless multi-chain cryptocurrency management to native on-chain gaming, Coral Phone is not just a smartphone — it is your portal to a new decentralized digital era,” the website explained.

The company has entered into a partnership with Acurasta ‘decentralized serverless cloud’, combining Web3 and cloud computing technologies for the Coral Phone.

On the hardware front, the smartphone features a 6.55-inch AMOLED display and a 4,800mAh battery. The dual-SIM phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and runs on the company’s custom Coral OS 1.0 based on Android 14.

“The first 2,000 early bird units will be priced at 1,500 USDT or $1,500 (approximately Rs. 1.25 lakh). Availability is limited and the price of subsequent sales is subject to change,” the website added.

The interface of this phone will be decentralized, giving users more independence over their apps and the privacy of their content. This AI layer on the device will enable it to offer an “intelligent” and secure overall performance, according to a report by ZYCrypto.

For now, CoralApp is letting users pre-register for these devices. While the exact release date for this device remains unknown, the website does say that early birds will receive their devices within six months of registering.

Binance had hatched CoralApp as part of Season 4 of the Global Incubation Program in 2022.

Web3 smartphones come to the mainstream market

The Coral Phone is not the first smartphone to combine the already mature smartphone technology with the emerging Web3 technology.

In 2022, Solana Labs unveiled its Solana Saga smartphone, packed with Web3 features such as a built-in Seed Vault to securely store all private keys associated with the device, among other Web3 features.

Jambo, a smartphone brand that supports Web3, had released details of the JamboPhone in May this year, which is priced at $99 (approximately Rs 8,230) and comes with support for Web3 functionality.
