Black mother takes DNA test after people say her light-skinned child isn’t really hers
A black mother with a light-skinned daughter was forced to undergo a DNA test after naysayers questioned whether the child was really hers.
Mum-of-three Alex, whose husband Rob is white, welcomed daughter Pudge Pudge, 2, via IVF.
The couple said they were “surprised” by how “different” Pudge Pudge looked, especially compared to their other two children, who are darker.
“I was super surprised,” Alex told Truly. ‘Her ears weren’t even dark. They were really very white!’
Because of the difference in skin color, Alex said she gets “a lot of negativity” from both trolls online and people in real life.

Recalling an example, Alex said she was shopping with Pudge Pudge at the mall when she was stopped by an employee, who said “it didn’t look good” and threatened to call in security.
“Rob ended up taking care of the whole thing for me and basically told her to leave us alone,” she said.
‘I should be able to deal with my child the way I want!’
Alex said she has even received criticism from other black people, who have attacked her for being in an interracial relationship.
“I’ve seen people online who look black saying I can’t have that white man’s child, all kinds of things,” she said.
Alex has also been accused of ‘hiring’ Pudge Pudge as a ‘content baby’ for social media.
Ultimately, she was given a DNA test to prove that Pudge Pudge was her child.
“We decided to do the DNA test because she was so white and we used IVF to get pregnant with her and mistakes happen,” she explained.

Despite some backlash and awkward moments, the couple has received an outpouring of support since sharing their story.
“As a black mother with a ‘white passing’ child living in a predominantly white area in Georgia, this happens every day,” one wrote.
“Being followed to eavesdrop on our conversations, asking where her mother is, implying I’m a babysitter, etc. Keep your head up mom.” Your family is beautiful.”
Another wrote: ‘I understand people are confused, but being rude is crossing a line. This is a sweet and beautiful family!’
A third added: ‘People are so weird. They have no idea how mixed children work. You two are doing great. Don’t listen to the crazies.’
Many others pointed out that Pudge Pudge looks exactly like her father.
‘She looks like daddy. People are so ignorant,” one supportive fan commented, while another wrote, “She looks EXACTLY like her dad! That’s so sweet. Some strong genes for sure.’
