BMW hit-and-run case: Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, father of main accused Mihir, remanded in 14-day judicial custody; gets bail | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Leader of the Shiv Sena Rajesh Shah was remanded in custody for 14 days on Monday judicial custody Through court in Mumbai in connection with the BMW hit-and-run case in which a 45-year-old woman was killed in Worli.
However, Shah was granted interim bail of Rs 15,000, his lawyer Sudhir Bhardwaj said.
Shah’s son Mihir is the main suspect in the case.
Mihir Shah is still at large and a lookout post has been issued for him.
The accident occurred around 5.30 am on Sunday when Kaveri Nakhwa, a resident of Worli Koliwada, was riding a scooter with her husband Pradeep. A speeding BMW car, reportedly driven by Rajesh Shah’s 24-year-old son Mihir Shah, rammed into their two-wheeler, dragging Kaveri for several metres.
She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.Driver sent to police cell
After the incident, Mihir Shah fled from the scene, leaving behind the car and its driver Rajendra Singh Bidawat. Rajesh Shah and the driver were later arrested by Worli police for allegedly helping Mihir escape.
Bidawat has been remanded in police custody for one day.
A Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against Mihir Shah, who is still at large. Police have formed six teams to track down the accused.
Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde said that the law is equal for all and the government will not protect anyone in this case. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray, who represents Worli constituency, also assured that the police will act swiftly to nab the accused and bring him to justice.
The suspects have been arrested on various charges, including 105 (manslaughter, not being murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police suspect that Mihir Shah was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
The accident in Worli bears striking similarities to the Porsche collision incident in Pune earlier this year, in which a minor was speeding in a luxury car, killing two young engineers.
