A month after the helicopter crash, the body of a Coast Guard pilot was found
NEW DELHI: The body of the captain of the ill-fated ‘Dhruv’ Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) of the Coast Guard that crashed in the Arabian Sea over a month ago has finally been found after a massive search. Commander Rakesh Kumar Rana (38), who was in charge medical evacuation of an Indian-flagged motor tanker Hari Leela, about 45 km offshore Porbandar Coast in Gujarat, went missing on September 2.
While a member of the crew was rescued safely, the bodies of co-pilot commander Vipin Babu and aircrew diver Karan Singh were later found. Since then, the Coast Guard and Navy have “relentlessly” carried out the search operation for Commander Rana, which included more than 70 air flights and 82 ship days. “His remains were recovered from the sea on Thursday,” an official said.
