BOMBSHELL text messages from mother of Georgia school shooting reveal she warned of ‘extreme emergency’ minutes before her son opened fire
The mother of suspected Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray told her family she called her son’s school to alert them of an “extreme emergency” the morning he allegedly killed four people.
Marcee Gray, the mother of the alleged shooter, was seen in text messages shared by The Washington Post to her family: ‘I told them it was an extreme emergency and that they had to start looking immediately [my son] to check on him.’
According to the outlet, a call log from the family’s shared phone plan shows that Gray made a 10-minute phone call to the school at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, about a half hour before Colt allegedly opened fire.
A school counselor told Marcee that her son had talked about the school shooting that morning, Gray’s sister Annie Brown told The Post.

Colt Gray, 14, was arrested Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder, minutes after authorities say he opened fire on 13 students and teachers, killing four.
Shortly after the shooting began, reports emerged that Apalachee High School had been warned that a tragedy could occur.
Marcee wrote in her messages to her family, “I was the one who notified the high school counselor.”
According to Brown, her sister called the school because she had heard something that made her fear an “impending disaster.” However, it is not reported what exactly she heard.
Her sister Annie Brown said Marcee had heard from a counselor that her son had been exhibiting disturbing behavior that morning and was making threatening comments about school shootings.
At the same time, Lyela Sayarath, one of Colt’s classmates – who previously shared a chilling story about how close she came to death – told the media that a school principal went looking for Colt in their classroom.
In her previous story to CNN, Sayarath said Colt frequently skipped class and that she assumed he did so when he left the classroom minutes before the administrator arrived.
However, there was some confusion because there was another student in the class with a similar name to Colt. Neither of them were in the room and the administrator left the room with the backpack of the student with the same name.
A few minutes later the shooting started.
Mason Schermerhorn, 14, an autistic student at Apalachee High School, was the first victim to be identified. He was one of four people killed in the mass shooting
Teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie also died in the tragedy
Student Christian Angulo, 14, also lost his life in the senseless shooting
The lyrics provide a clearer picture of how Colt’s family understood his mental turmoil and how close school officials were to finding him before he reportedly opened fire.
In a conversation after the shooting, Marcee texted her sister, saying she wondered why officers hadn’t found her son in time. She felt they had “a long time to intervene, so I’m curious to see what happened in that time.”
Further text messages from Marcee’s sister indicate that Colt’s school and family had also been in contact about his deteriorating mental health for at least a week before the shooting.
In one of the texts, Brown allegedly told a family member that Colt was having “homicidal and suicidal thoughts.”
“He should not have had a gun and he should have gone to THERAPY months ago,” she added in the text.
It comes as the teenager, Colin Gray, has also been accused of a whole host of crimesincluding murder. Prosecutors say he gave his son the gun “with the understanding he was a threat to himself and others.”
Both father and son face life imprisonment.
Colin Gray, 54, appeared in the same courtroom shortly after his son, charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children.
Brown said her cousin had been “begging” for mental health care for months, but the “adults around him abandoned him.”
Marcee had previously been ordered by the court to have limited contact with Colt’s father Colin after she pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge in December.
The alleged shooter’s parents separated in 2022 after being deported. During the unrest, the family was involved with Georgia’s Child Protective Services.
Months later, in May 2023, the family was visited by local police after receiving a tip from the FBI about threats to commit a school shooting.
Colt denied making the threats and Colin told police he had hunting rifles in the house but his son was not allowed to use them unsupervised.

Several classmates shared similar stories, describing how the teenager quietly left math class around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, only to return minutes later with a gun.
Another student, Bri Jones, 14, said she almost opened the door for Gray but stopped herself “as he pulled out his gun.”
“I froze, just like I froze and said ‘no,'” Jones told CNN. “He had all of us in that classroom.”
Jones says she almost opened the door but stopped herself thanks to a tip from her mother.
“I always look outside before I open the door… that’s a habit my mother taught me,” she said.
Even though she saw the gun, Jones said her teacher urged her to open the door “because she didn’t know he had a gun, because she was sitting at her desk.”
“She went to walk over, open the door, and I was like, ‘No, he has a gun,’” Jones recalled.

The community of Winder, Georgia is shocked by the tragedy
“The shooter, he looked up,” Jones continued. “He looked at me, my teacher, and then there was someone in the hallway. He turned his head and just started shooting.
“Once he started shooting, it seemed like he just kept going. There were so many shots coming one after the other… It felt like he kept shooting forever – and then it stopped.”
Students said that when Gray did not enter his own classroom, he opened fire into the classroom next door while their door was open.
At that moment, teacher Richard Aspinwall was shot dead in front of his shocked class. According to student Malaysia Mitchell, it was traumatic for her.
“We had to drag our teacher’s body all the way into the classroom,” she told CNN. “We heard him take his last breath.”
The prosecution said they are not ruling out filing further charges against Gray in connection with the shooting.
