A Canadian woman is due to appear in court after she flew to Brisbane and allegedly hid $13.4 million worth of methamphetamine in her luggage.

The 24-year-old was subjected to a baggage check after arriving at Brisbane International Airport from Fiji, from Vancouver, on July 28.

Australian border guards reportedly found 14.4kg of methamphetamine in towels soaked in vinegar and containing coffee beans.

The Australian Federal Police said on Friday the meth had an estimated value of $13.4 million, enough for almost 145,000 street deals.

The woman was charged with importing a commercial quantity of drugs subject to border control, a crime punishable by up to life in prison.

Border Force Chief Josh Ikin said the arrest was a warning to anyone seeking to import drugs into Australia.

“Methamphetamine has a devastating effect on the community every day,” said Chief Inspector Ikin.

‘This result should serve as a warning to criminals: wherever you want to import or transport your drugs, the ABF and our partners are ready to help you.’

Acting Chief Inspector of the Federal Police, Steve Wiggins, noted that there were 10,100 hospital admissions due to methamphetamine in 2021/22.

The woman will appear in court in Brisbane on Friday.
