Borderlands 4 Revealed, Coming in 2025

2K and Gearbox Software have officially announced Borderlands 4. The next mainline entry in the popular looter-shooter franchise is scheduled to release in 2025 on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, during Take-Two Interactive’s 2026 fiscal year. Borderlands 4 will be the fourth mainline title and seventh overall title in the franchise, following 2019’s Borderlands 3. 2K hasn’t revealed any details about the upcoming game, other than that players will once again assume the role of a vault hunter in search of secret treasure.

Borderlands 4 was announced with a teaser trailer during the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom on Tuesday. The trailer doesn’t give away much, but it sets an explosive tone for the game and teases an entirely new planet. “Players will once again assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they search for secret alien treasures and blow up everything in sight,” 2K said in a press release.

Randy Pitchford, founder and president of Gearbox, said the following about the scope of Borderlands 4: “All of us at Gearbox have enormous ambitions for Borderlands 4 and are committed to making everything we love about Borderlands better than ever before, while taking the game to new levels in exciting new directions.”

Catharina Lavers Mallet, senior vice president and general manager of 2K Core Games, said: “The Borderlands series is one of 2K’s most successful franchises ever and is beloved by millions of people worldwide. We’re thrilled to deepen our already close partnership with the Gearbox team and look forward to delivering best-in-class experiences for both loyal fans and new players alike.”

In addition to Borderlands 4, 2K also announced Mafia: The Old Country and Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on opening night of Gamescom, all of which will be released next year. 2K parent company Take-Two Interactive is also gearing up to launch Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025, making fiscal year 2026 a busy year for the company with multiple major titles set to launch. “We’re excited to share with our fans that 2025 is going to be a huge year for 2K and Gearbox Entertainment,” Mallet said in the press release.

Borderlands 4 is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X next year. The upcoming looter-shooter is available to wishlist now on all storefronts.
