Boston Dynamics puts the electric Atlas robot to work in new videos

Boston Dynamics just released new videos of its Atlas robot moving engine hoods from one place to another. It’s the first time we’ve seen the new all-electric Atlas robot perform work-like tasks, and there are some interesting new updates.

The robot can correct its mistakes and maneuver autonomously, even adapting if someone makes changes to the working environment.

It is also shown with finger-like appendages for the first time. One of the robot’s “fingers” starts on the bottom of its hand to lift the hood and then rotates to the top of the hand to pinch and hold it in place as the robot carries it to its destination .

It appears that Boston Dynamics has applied the same principles of hypermobility to the robot’s new grippers as it does to the rest of the robot, which is able to rotate its legs and torso in different directions.
