‘Both society and government should be ashamed’: Rahul Gandhi after army officer’s friend was raped in Parliament building – Times of India


NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on Thursday attacked the BJP-led party Madhya Pradesh government after a woman was raped at gunpoint in Indore, with allegations that the law and law and order is virtually non-existent in the BJP-ruled states.
The Congress leader said this about X: “The violence against two soldiers and the rape of their female companion in Madhya Pradesh is enough to shame the entire society.”
“In the states where the BJP is in power, there is virtually no law and order. Moreover, the negative attitude of the BJP government towards the daily increase in crimes against women is extremely worrying,” he added.
Rahul also said that the unsafe environment is leading to restrictions in the freedom and aspirations of India’s daughters.
“This brutality of the criminals is a result of the total failure of the government and the insecurity prevailing in the country, which is curtailing the freedom and aspirations of the daughters of India,” he said.

“Both society and the government should be ashamed and think seriously: how long will they close their eyes to the responsibility of protecting half of the country’s population!” he added.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also targeted the ruling party, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to ensure the safety of women across the country.
The incidents of gang rape of a woman after taking hostage army officers in Madhya Pradesh and finding the naked body of a woman on the highway in Uttar Pradesh are heartbreaking. Every day, 86 women are victims of rape and brutality in the country. From home to outdoors, from roads to offices, women are not safe anywhere. Not only is half the country’s population unsafe, but such brutality breaks the morale of crores of women every day,” Priyanka wrote on X.

“The Prime Minister talks big about women’s safety, but women across the country are still waiting for a serious effort to ensure their safety. When will this wait end?” she added.
The opposition’s reaction comes a day after two army officers and their girlfriends were attacked by a group of men who held one of the women at gunpoint in Indore.
SP Rupesh Dwivedi said on Wednesday evening that six suspects have been identified, two of whom have been arrested from the jungle.
Both army officers were wounded in the mob attack. Both men were attending the junior officers course at the Infantry School in Mhow. SP National Hitika said Vasal.
