‘Brat summer served up by M&S’ bar staff as shoppers go wild for knitted cardigan
MARKS and Spencer staffers joked they’re serving up ‘Brat Summer’ after unveiling a fall top with ‘gorgeous’ details.
The fashion trend was inspired by British pop star Charlie XCX’s hit album Brat, which was released in June.
Charlie summed up the Brat Girl aesthetic this way: “You’re that girl who’s a little messy, likes to party, and says stupid things sometimes.
“She’s honest, blunt and a little volatile. That’s Brat.”
But other fashionistas have taken the trend more literally, taking inspiration from Charlie’s minimalist album cover, which spells out “brat” in a low-resolution font on a lime green background.
And ‘brat green’ quickly became the colour of the season, popping up everywhere on the high streets.
Staff at Marks and Spencer’s Stirling store shared a photo of their new knitted cardigan in a vibrant shade of lime green, saying: “Brat summer served by M&S.”
The Scallop Edge Button Detail Knitted Cardigan is praised for its button detailing on the shoulders and effortless style.
The price is £29.50 and sizes are extra small through to extra large.
M&S bosses say: “This knitted cardigan is a versatile piece that can be worn both formally and informally.
“It has a comfortable, regular fit and a round neck.
“The scalloped edges add a feminine touch to the textured design.
“It comes with military style buttons on the shoulders for a stylish finish”
And it’s already sold out among shoppers. One wrote enthusiastically: “Beautiful colour and I love the buttons on the shoulder.”
A second added: “Very nice top, beautiful, lots of details. I have a size 38 or 40 and the small was perfect.”
A third wrote: “Beautiful colour and I like the buttons on the shoulders.”
If this has inspired you to head to your nearest M&S, you might also want to keep an eye out for a £19.50 top that shoppers think “needs to go viral”.
One shopper who wore the one-shoulder top, available in black or white, enthused: “I’ve found the best top. It’s £19.50. It’s a great top to go out in. Love it. It’s such an easy basic.”
“Where have these M&S tops been all our lives!? SO yummy.”
Why Everyone Loves M&S
Deputy fashion editor Abby McHale told Fabulous why M&S is the store of the moment. She explained:
“M&S has really done a great job this season, there are so many good products to be excited about.
“A brand once known for its ‘frumpy fashion’, although that idea has long since disappeared, it is now one of the leading high streets for women’s clothing.
“The handbag range in particular is super strong, with a 170% sales rate against plan, and many more designer dupes at a fraction of the price.
“The brand is also now #1 for style perceptions, up from #3 last year. This is due to a very strong design team that is focused on modernizing the brand, taking into account not only how the pieces look, but also how easy they are to wear.
“Price is also an important factor as you can get a lot of good quality pieces for under £30.
“Having given us a sneak peek at the upcoming collection, there are so many more amazing pieces to keep an eye out for in the coming months.
“Think leopard print dresses, colourful co-ords, embroidered boho jackets, plus lots of swimwear and great accessories, as well as great wardrobe pieces that will last year after year.”
