Bridge collapses again in Bihar; 13th in 3 weeks | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: A bridge collapsed in Bihar on Wednesday, the 13th in the past three weeks, officials said. No injuries have been reported so far.
The bridge collapsed near Mahishi village in Saharsa district of the state.
“It could be a small bridge or causeway. District officials have reached the spot. We are trying to gather more information about the incident,” said Jyoti Kumar, additional collector.
Criticism of the state government over a series of collapsed bridges, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said last week: “In Bihar, bridges are collapsing, papers are leaking and people are being killed every day due to poor law and order situation. Inflation, crime, corruption, poverty and unemployment are rising uncontrollably.”
“No positive work is being done for Bihar and no one in the government is even discussing it. Whatever is there, it is also falling prey to corruption. What is this two-engine government for?” he added.
Last week, CM Nitish Kumar directed officials to conduct a survey of all old bridges in the state and identify those that require urgent repairs.
The state government has taken action by suspending 15 engineers following a series of bridge collapses in several districts including Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran and Kishanganj.
