A British father of two was reportedly stabbed to death by his Indonesian girlfriend during a video call with his family in the UK.

Matt Harper, 48, was reportedly assaulted by his partner Emma Pakpahan, believed to be in his 40s, at his home in Bali, Indonesia.

He is known to have spoken to his stepdaughter and ex-wife on a video call when the attack took place.

Mr Harper worked for the luxury hotel company Karma and had been in a relationship with Pakpahan since July last year, according to friends.

The Indonesian woman – who holds US citizenship from a previous marriage – told investigators that Mr Harper took his own life.

She showed police video footage she recorded of him dying on the ground moments after her suspected attack, telling them: he had locked the doors and deliberately injured himself, The Sun reports.

She sobs in the clip: “I don’t know what happened. I don’t know, I don’t know.’

Bali police arrested her on suspicion of murder.

When Mr Harper’s death became public, Pakpahan posted a video of himself on social media to thank friends and family for their “support.”

She says to the camera, ‘Of course I’m sad. And if you don’t hear from me, it’s not because I don’t want to answer, I need time to process things.

“Please don’t believe anything until the police get a statement.”

Matt’s ex-girlfriend in Bali, Allin Efashion, told The Sun, “I was with him before he joined Emmy.

‘He was a perfect gentleman, a caring and sweet man. He was the love of my life. I can’t believe he’s gone.

“He texted me just days before he died, saying he hated Emmy for ruining his life — and was sorry he left me.

He was the best father to his two girls and stepdaughter and was loved by many friends in the UK and Bali. May he rest in peace.’

A spokesman for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office said last night: “We are in contact with Indonesian police about the death of a British man in Bali and are supporting the family at this difficult time.”
