A young English golf star became the first amateur in three years who won a Ladies European Tour title on Sunday, but receives none of the prize money because of a little-known rule.
The 21-year-old claimed a six-shot victory at the Irish Open of the women after the end of 21-under par for the tournament.
Lottie Woad, the world no. 1 Amateur, the final round had entered a seventy -off lead and shot a four under 69 to claim the trophy.
However, she was denied £ 58,000 prize money because of her amateur status.
Woad finished six strokes for the second Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden with New Zealander Amelia Garvey finished third.
And second place Sagstrom is the beneficiary of the situation with the money that goes to her instead.

However, she says she is not yet considering becoming a professional.

‘It was clear that I had a big lead today, but I still really had to concentrate because I was being chased by some really good players. I am happy to get it done. It’s perfect. I have the feeling that I am playing well, and I hope to continue that [the] Evian [Championship] Next week.
‘It generally felt quite comfortable. There were a few moments at the start of the rear nine that could have gone wrong, but I hung in there and ended with a number of beautiful birdies. ‘
