Bruce Highway crash: Several people fighting for their lives after serious collision

Two people have died and a third is fighting for his life after a horrific crash on the Bruce Highway south of Cairns.

Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on the Bruce Highway near Fitzgerald Creek on Friday morning at approximately 11:30 a.m.

“Two people were pronounced dead on arrival. Another person was airlifted to Cairns Hospital,” a Queensland Police spokesman said.

Emergency services are currently examining several patients with life-threatening injuries, but the exact number of injured is not yet known.

The Bruce Highway through Fitzgerald Creek is closed in both directions and the investigation is ongoing.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area, otherwise long delays may occur.
