Bubblegum pink point-and-shoot movie camera unveiled for Barbie fans, complete with matching bag
Retrospekt, a specialist in retro technology, has teamed up with Mattel to create a low-cost Malibu Barbie-themed 35mm camera, complete with a matching bag and two disposable film cameras.
The line of new, affordable Malibu Barbie-themed cameras and accessories follows on from Retrospekt’s previous collaboration with Mattel – a Polaroid 600 Barbie theme camera which launched earlier this year during Oscar season.
Retrospekt already makes a line of ‘FC-11’ 35mm film cameras , and the latest Malibu Barbie version expands the diverse collection with bubblegum pink, palm tree, and sun-drenched goodness. Oh, and it’s also emblazoned with the Barbie logo (see below).
The new 35mm film camera is now available for $59 on the Retrospekt website (approximately £46 / AU$90), while the matching carrying case costs $29 (approximately £23 / AU$45). Retrospekt ships internationally, cost calculated at checkout. Remember, you will need to fill the reusable camera with film, so please factor in ongoing film and film development costs.
The simplicity of point and shoot
Launched in honor of Barbie’s 65th birthday, the Malibu Barbie FC-11 35mm Movie Camera from Retrospekt is as simple as they come. Measuring 119mm x 67mm x 44mm, it fits easily in your pocket or in her adorable camera bag.
The camera features a fixed-focus 31mm f/9 lens that keeps everything sharp, autoexposure with a shutter speed of 1/120 sec, designed for ISO 200 and 400 film, and an optional built-in flash activated by a switch on the front of the camera.
All you need to do is load a roll of 35mm film, point and shoot. After each exposure, wind the film to the next frame using the film wind knob on the back of the camera. To use the flash, you must first install a AAA battery (not included).
If you like the look of the Malibu Barbie Movie Camera but aren’t sure how often you’ll realistically use it (maybe you just want it as an accessory), Retrospekt launched another option on the same day: two single-use 35mm cameras.
The Barbie and Ken disposable cameras (below) both come with a roll of ISO400 35mm color film with 27 exposures. The bundle costs $49.
