The couple moved into the Windsor property in April 2019 after it had been extensively renovated at a cost of £2.4 million to the taxpayer.

The renovations to the luxury property reportedly included a brand new heating system, new wiring and new utilities, meaning the historic home underwent a “substantial overhaul.”

Following the release of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, the pair returned the keys in 2023 and agreed to repay the renovation money if they swapped the UK for California.

After Harry, Meghan and Archie left, the keys were reportedly handed over to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. However, it is said that the new tenants did not stay for long.

The building, which the late Queen gave to the bridal couple as a wedding present, will now be rented out.

But those who want to see the estate in real life can now apply for a Curtain maker and upholsterer of soft furnishings position advertised by Buckingham Palace.

The contract will run for one year and will earn £28,000 per annum. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ‘the production of a range of soft furnishings and window treatments, using the latest methods, quality standards, design and timescales required to ensure a beautiful result every time’.

Whoever successfully secures the job will also be ‘involved in all aspects of a project, from design schemes and research into historical styles to sourcing suitable materials and specific construction methods’.

It will be a busy few days as you will be working on everything from existing soft furnishings to ‘assessing and recording their condition before sympathetically treating, repairing and conserving the items’.

To understand broader operational needs, the ideal candidate will need to collaborate with colleagues to “balance projects with the busy activities of the work palaces.”

It is worth applying, especially since the start date is almost November.

As this is a temporary 12-month contract, you will also need to have excellent time management skills and be able to work to tight deadlines.

This comes after Palace sources revealed the cost of the renovation will not be disclosed as it is “part of a five-year repainting and repair programme”.
