Burwood unit stabbing: vital update after woman and partner found dead in suspected murder-suicide
- Woman and man found dead in apartment
- Woman was a university student from China
A woman believed to have been stabbed to death by her partner before he committed suicide and then murdered her was a student from China.
The 21-year-old woman was found dead in an apartment in a block of flats on Conder Street, in Sydney’s west, at 8.50am on Monday.
Her partner allegedly stabbed her and then jumped to his death from a balcony. Officers found his body in the courtyard of the building.
The couple lived in Australia on student visas, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Apparently they were in a relationship and had an argument shortly before their deaths.
Officers from the New South Wales Police were called to the apartment complex shortly before 9am for a welfare check.
There they discovered the man’s half-naked body, lying in a garden bed.
Security footage from Monday morning showed him walking into the complex with two other women.
After a close examination of the footage, officers arrived at the unit where the group was seen entering.
Officers forced their way inside and found the woman’s body with stab wounds.
According to Burwood Police Chief Christine McDonald, officers seized the suspected murder weapon from the unit.
“It is too early to say whether this is domestic violence, but violence against any person is not tolerated and will not be,” she said.
A resident of the apartment complex told the newspaper that she saw officers crouching over the man’s body from her balcony.
Police have now cordoned off the crime scene and covered the remains with a tent.
“It was pretty scary… but then they covered it up before we could see much more,” the woman said.
The woman and man have yet to be formally identified.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
More coming soon.
