Cabinet approves Rs 14,000 crore green mobility effort – Times of India


NEW DELHI: In support of green mobility, the Little cupboard on Wednesday approved an incentive of Rs 10,900 crore for the promotion of electric mobility, including 25 lakh two-wheelers, and another Rs 3,435 crore for the uninterrupted operation of over 38,000 electric buses in cities and towns.
I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the PM E-DRIVE programme, which will replace the current scheme, FAMEwith an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore would be for two years. It will offer subsidies of Rs 3,679 crore to incentivise electric two- and three-wheelers, e-ambulances, e-trucks and other emerging EVs. It will support around 24.8 lakh electric two-wheelers, 3.16 lakh electric three-wheelers and 14,028 e-buses, an official statement said.
Another Rs 500 crore has been allocated for e-ambulances and Rs 4,391 crore for procurement of 14,028 e-buses by state or public transport authorities in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad.
To address the concerns of EV buyers over the availability of charging infrastructure, the plan proposes to install 22,100 fast chargers for electric four-wheelers, 1,800 fast chargers for e-buses and 48,400 fast chargers for electric two- and three-wheelers. Rs 2,000 crore has been allocated for this purpose.
In another decision, the Cabinet gave the green light to the scheme ‘PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism’ for the procurement and operation of e-buses by public transport authorities. The allocation is intended for four budget years up to 2028-2029. The scheme will support the operation of e-buses for up to 12 years after the date of deployment.
