Call of Duty Black Ops 6 has been confirmed to be the CoD title coming out later this year. . As it stands, Black Ops 6 will be a worthy successor to the excellent 2020 Black Ops: Cold War campaign.
Although there is certainly still some mystery surrounding it Black Ops 6We just received a truckload of new information, thanks to a dedicated Duty Direct event. This has certainly given us a solid first good look at the upcoming game, and a better idea of whether it has the potential to land on our list of the best FPS games come the end of the year.

Black Ops 6 Release Date and Platforms
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 will be launched on October 25, 2024. The game is now confirmed for PS5, XSX|S, PC, XBO, and PS4. On the PC side, you can download the game via the Microsoft Store, Battle.net, or Steam. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch on both console and PC.
Black Ops 6 Gameplay
Thanks to a recent Call of Duty event, we got to see some of the new gameplay innovations coming to Black Ops 6. The headline feature is Omnimovement, which allows you to sprint, slide, and dive in any direction. It’s a significant change from the previous game, and one that we’ll have to try out ourselves to really get to grips with. There’s also Intelligent Movement, which seems to apply a smoother transition between states like crouching, mantling, and sprinting.
Classic Prestige is also returning, alongside Theater Mode. Activision has revealed that Black Ops 6 multiplayer will feature 16 brand new multiplayer maps at launch. These include 12 Core 6v6 maps and four smaller Strike maps, the latter of which are unique, standalone locations designed to be played in 2v2 or Face Off 6v6 matches. Interestingly, each of these maps will have their own story and will be set after the events of the campaign.
When is Black Ops 6 set?
Activision has now lifted the lid on the setting for Black Ops 6. It is set after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and covers the Gulf War and much of the 1990s, which ties in with previously unverified rumors about 2024’s Duty to be called ‘Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War. Although these rumors were quashed when we heard them Black Ops 6‘s official title, but when it came to the game’s setting, they were spot on.
In the teaser video ‘open your eyes’ we see a number of political figures, including former presidents George HW Bush and Bill Clinton, covering the years 1989-1993 and 1993-2001 respectively. In addition, we see former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who remained in office until the end of 1990. It is likely that Black Ops 6 could cover the fallout from Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990, and the response from the US-led coalition. How closely the game stays true to history remains to be seen, as Black operations has been known to alter timelines in the past.

Black Ops 6 Beta Start Date
The Black Ops 6 beta is launching simultaneously on all platforms for the first time in a long time. There will be two separate beta periods, with those who pre-order the game getting in early. Here are the key details:
- Early Access: August 30 – September 4
- Open beta: September 6 – September 9
Black Ops 6 Zombies
We have now caught our first glimpse of the Black Ops 6 Zombies mode. The trailer above teases the story, and you can read more at the COD blog. We know it’s set on Terminus Island and will continue the Dark Aether storyline. A full reveal is scheduled for August 8, 2024 at 8am PT, so stay tuned for updates.

What is the file size of Black Ops 6?
Activision has clarified that Black Ops 6 won’t be 300GB to download when it launches. This follows a report from IGN which pointed out the game’s Xbox listing, with an eye-watering 309GB file size. In a statement on TwitterActivision puts an end to the confusion:
“The formats shown include full installs of Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Warzone, and all relevant content packs, including all localized languages, and may not be representative of a typical player installation experience.
Players can download Black Ops 6 at launch without any other Call of Duty titles or all language packs downloaded.”
The actual file size for Black Ops 6 has yet to be revealed. We will be sure to update this section if we hear more.
Is Black Ops 6 coming to Game Pass?
Microsoft has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will arrive on Xbox Game Pass day one for all members. The news was shared in a new Xbox Wire news (May 28). The news followed a leak accidentally placed by Xbox in the Xbox Game Pass app.
What happened to Black Ops 5?
Were you as confused as we were when Activision announced Black Ops 6? Of course there was never originally a Black Ops 5of Black Ops: Cold War the official fifth installment in the series. It seems Activision is counting that as five, so the next one will indeed be Black Ops 6.
