DJ Rob Da Bank says there’s never been a better time for music festivals as he gears up to launch Camp Bestival Shropshire this summer.

The former Radio 1 DJ, 48, founded Bestival with his wife Josie in 2004, and the couple expanded the brand by creating two family-friendly Camp Bestival, the original in Lulworth Castle, Dorset, taking place in July.

Their latest venture in Shropshire will be held between August 18-21 and he says fans who missed festivals during Covid are eager to make up for lost time.

Rob told MailOnline: ‘Last year we managed to get Camp Bestival going, we were the first ones out the gate after Boris opened everyone up so we were really lucky and that’s sorted for this year.

“Some people might look at us and think ‘why the hell are you starting a new festival just after Covid?’ but actually it’s the best time for us because we can take advantage of that popularity.’

Rob Da Bank co-founded Bestival with his wife Josie and from this came the family-friendly offshoot Camp Bestival, now held every year at Lulworth Castle, Dorset. The pair are also launching a new one to be held in Shropshire in August

Camp Bestival (pictured) is hugely popular with adults and children and sells out every year. This year festival-goers will be treated to performances by The Proclaimers, Rag N' Bone Man, Example, Razorlight and Rudimental, among others.

The new festival takes place in Weston Park where V Festival was previously held.

More than 10,000 tickets have already been sold with fans raving about the prospect of seeing headliner FatBoy Slim, plus chart-topping acts Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, Becky Hill and Example.

Family favorites, including Horrible Histories and CBeebies star Mr Tumble, will entertain young festival-goers, while comedy and circus acts increase the variety of shows over the four-day weekend.

Rob says: ‘From the beginning, when we started it 14 years ago, it was sold out and it has always been so popular.

“It’s weird that the UK doesn’t have more family festivals, so there’s a lot less competition.”

Josie added: “It’s still very satisfying to see adults interacting with their children and having fun.

And no one leaves trash behind! It’s very respectful and sustainable.’

Rob and Josie knew the newest location would be perfect just ten minutes after they set foot in it.

He says: ‘We’ve been talking about doing another one for years, but being wimpy southerners, we were a little worried about the location on the map, because we didn’t know what it would be like.

‘But within ten minutes we looked at each other and thought ‘wow, this is the best festival site we’ve been to’.

“It’s absolutely breathtaking, a real wilderness setting, very picturesque with lakes and forests.”

The couple, who share four children, hope to set a new Guinness World record at Camp Bestival Dorset for the biggest disco dance in July.

Festival-goers will learn a five-minute routine for Sister Sledge classic We Are Family, which will be chaired by official judges to ensure the moves are all in coherence. They need more than 324 people to compete to break the record.

Josie says, “We all try to create great family moments. It will be great.’

A big aspect of the Shropshire site will be the wellness offer where revelers are encouraged to improve their mental health, reduce stress, improve their sleep with Wim Hof led ice baths, breath work with Stuart Sandeman and Cosmic Kids Yoga as activities on the terrain. †
