It comes after a poll of 2,000 film fans voted the McCallister home as the ultimate place to spend Christmas.

Second place went to the traditional English cottage where Kate Winslet’s Iris stood in the 2006 favorite The Holiday.

And at number three comes Jamie’s picturesque French lakeside villa in Love Actually.

While White Christmas’s White House and It’s a Wonderful Life’s Bailey residence rounded out the top five.

The research was commissioned by Latimer Homes, which has transformed two of its show homes at Islington Wharf in Manchester and Cocoa Gardens in York into winter wonderlands.

Both locations contain famous memorabilia from some of the most beloved Christmas movies of all time.

“The McCallister House has become a symbol of Christmas for film fans everywhere,” said Stephen Maskill, regional sales manager for the homebuilder.

“The cozy charm, twinkling lights and festive chaos perfectly capture the magic of the holidays.

“It is also a key source of inspiration for redesigning our show homes, with trinkets and nods to much-loved festive film classics.”

It also found that 80% said seeing all the decorated houses in festive films puts them more in the mood for the holidays.

A further 63% would like to visit some of the magical Christmas locations that make these films so special.

While 30% love the idea of ​​reliving Home Alone 2 in New York City this December.

But 60% acknowledge that films have had a big influence on the way we celebrate Christmas.

Of these, 32% think they have made us long for a white Christmas, and 32% also think they have influenced the way we decorate our homes.

When it comes to making it festive, respondents spend an average of three hours getting the picture perfect.

Of those surveyed, 44% described their Christmas decorating style as traditional, using classic colors such as red, green, gold and silver.

While 15% use modern decoration, using a sleek, minimalist design with contemporary colours.

Only 12% go for a vintage look with antique decorations from the past decades.

The research, conducted via OnePoll.comalso felt it was important that 77% decorated the halls with their families, as 83% believe that Christmas only really begins when the decorations go up.

“Festive movie settings not only inspire movie magic, they also influence the way we decorate and celebrate at home,” said Stephen.

“We know how important it is for people to celebrate in their own way in their own space, and having a place you can call your own may be easier than you think.
