Carole and Mike Middleton join Duchess Sophie and King Frederik of Denmark in the Royal Box on day eight of Wimbledon

Wimbledon‘s royal box was thriving with members of the royal family today as the tennis tournament marked the start of a new week on Monday. 

Today, Britain’s Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Brigitte, Duchess of Gloucester, were joined by European royalty for an afternoon on Centre Court. 

Sophie, 60, was seen embracing King Frederik of Denmark in welcome before they took to their seats – although his wife Queen Mary was not present at SW19 this afternoon. 

The packed box also saw the first appearance from Carole and Michael Middleton this year. 

Their daughter, the Princess of Wales, has not yet attended the 2025 tournament herself – but as she’s patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, royal fans will be hoping for an appearance as it draws to a close. 

As well as royalty, centre court hosted a slew of celebrities this afternoon, including sporting stars Roger Federer, and cricketers Joe Root and Jimmy Anderson. 

Comedians Sir Lenny Henry and Michael McIntyre were also seen enjoying an afternoon of action, with Gabby and Kenny Logan sitting on the far right of the box. 

They will have much to look forward to at SW19 today, as Novak Djokovic is set to take on Australia’s Alex de Minaur on centre court, before a match between Mirra Andreeva and Emma Navarro, with reigning men’s world No.1 Jannik Sinner set to play Grigor Dimitrov to end the day. 

1. King Frederik X of Denmark 

King Frederik, 57, was crowned last year following the abdication of his mother, Queen Margrethe, 85. 

However, he was not joined at Wimbledon today by his wife Queen Mary, 53, and attended the tournament alone. 

The couple have four children: Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella and twins Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine. 

According to the Danish royal family’s calendar, the King is on holiday until July 13, with Christian acting as regent. Mary currently has no engagements listed – so the reason behind her absence is unclear.  

2. Alex Kay-Jelski

Alex Kay-Jelski is currently the BBC’s Director of Sport and was appointed in November 2024. 

He previously was the sports editor of The Times and the Daily Mail, and editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. 

3 & 4. Joe Root and Carrie Cotterell 

Joseph Root, MBE is a British cricketer who captained the England Test cricket team from 2017 until 2022 when he stepped down.

The 34-year-old batter is from Sheffield and has had an outstanding career to date which has seen him play 155 test matches scoring a total of 13,115 runs.

He was also shortlisted for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2024.

Joseph is accompanied in the royal box by his wife, Carrie Cotterell who he wed in 2018 in his home town after proposing to her two years prior.

5. Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh led the royals today at Wimbledon. 

Sophie, 60, is married to Prince Edward, King Charles’s youngest brother. The couple share two children – Lady Louise Windsor, 21, and James, Earl of Wessex, 17. 

Earlier this month, the couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. 

The Duke of Edinburgh had come across Sophie in 1987 when she was working in public relations for Capital Radio.  

More than two decades later, she and Edward are full time working members of the royal family, and he’s the only one of the late Queen’s children to never have divorced. 

Sophie today beamed as she watched the action in a white blazer and smart navy dress. 

6 & 7. Sir James Anderson and Lady Daniella Anderson

English cricketer Jimmy Anderson holds the record for the most wickets taken by a fast bowler in Test cricket, and third most wickets in international cricket. 

Jimmy, 42, is now the fast-bowling mentor for England and continues to play at a county level for Lancashire. He was knighted in April 2025. 

He was joined today by his wife, former model Daniella Lloyd. 

8. Deborah Jevans

Deborah Jevans, 65, is a former England tennis star who played in 10 Grand Slam competitions between 1979 and 1983.

She is married to Andrew Jarrett, a former tennis player and Wimbledon referee, with whom she played mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 1978, reaching the quarter finals.

Deborah became Vice-Chair of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in July 2023. She was appointed CBE in 2013 for services to sport and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

9 & 10. Carole and Michael Middleton 

Carole and Michael Middleton are the parents of Catherine, Princess of Wales, who is also Patron of All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Kate’s mother, 70, and father, 76, embraced Wimbledon chic with neutral tones, as Carol sported the £395 Helena Toffee Stripe dress from Beulah London, paired with sandals and a white bag from Osprey.

Michael, 76, meanwhile wore a smart suit with a blue shirt as a pop of colour for a summery look.

Carole and Michael, grandparents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, have been a great support to their eldest child throughout her recent cancer battle.

11. Michael and Kitty McIntyre

Michael McIntyre, 49, is one of the most famous comedians in the world.

The British stand-up, writer and television presenter most recently toured with his show ‘Macnificent’.

Accompanied by his wife, Kitty, Michael, 49, cut a dapper figure in a navy suit which he layered over a crisp white shirt and dark tie.

Meanwhile aromatherapist Kitty, who shares sons Lucas, 20, and Oscar, 17, with the funnyman, looked sensational in a pink floral mini dress.

She accessorised with pastel heels and a matching handbag as she posed with her husband before taking their seats in the stand.

12 & 13. Roger Federer and Mirka Federer

Eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer could be spotted in the royal box today alongside his wife, Mirka, also a tennis player.  

Federer was the Gentlemen’s Singles Champion from 2003-2007 and in 2009, 2012 and 2017. 

He was ranked by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) as No.1 in men’s singles for 310 weeks, including 237 consecutive weeks. 

Federer, 43, retired from playing professional tennis in 2022. 

14. Sir Lenny Henry and Ms Lisa Makin 

Sir Lenny Henry made a rare appearance with his partner Lisa Makin as they attended day eight of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The happy couple started dating in 2012 after Sir Lenny split from Dawn French, his wife of 25 years in 2010. 

The comedian, 66, previously hosted Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day for 39 years, before retiring in March 2023. 

Before becoming the face of Red Nose Day, Sir Lenny was famed for his edgy stand-up routines and outrageous characters that would poke fun at his Jamaican roots. 

Since, he has campaigned tirelessly for racial justice and black rights.

15. The Duchess of Gloucester

The Duchess of Gloucester was today seated next to Mirka Federer in the front row of the royal box. 

Brigitte, 79, is the wife of Richard, the Duke of Gloucester – who is the late Queen’s cousin.

The couple married on July 8, 1972 at St Andrew’s Church in Barnwell, Northamptonshire.

Her husband was born Prince Richard of Gloucester and met his Danish future wife, Birgitte van Deurs, who was studying at the Bell School of Languages, at Cambridge University in 1965.

16 & 17. Gabby and Kenny Logan

Gabby Logan MBE is a sports presenter for TV and radio, as well as the co-host of podcast The Sports Agents.

She has been crowned Sports Presenter of the Year four times, most recently in 2024.

Next month, Gabby will take on presenting duties at the BBC’s flagship football programme Match of the Day, joining Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates.

The 52-year-old, who comes from Wales, is a former gymnast who has competed in the Commonwealth Games.

Gabby looked stylish today in a black and white polka dot dress paired with a cream blazer.

She attended alongside her husband Kenny Logan, 53, a retired rugby union player hailing from Scotland.

Tony Gallagher is editor of The Times. Previously, he was editor of the Daily Telegraph, joint deputy editor of the Daily Mail and editor of The Sun in 2015. 

Imogen Grant

Imogen Grant is an Olympian champion rower, having started in the sport when she signed up for a taster session in exchange for two free drinks during Freshers Week at university. 

At the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, Imogen fell short of an Olympic medal by one-hundredth of a second, but won gold at Paris in 2024. 

Imogen is also a qualified doctor and was awarded an MBE in the 2025 New Year Honours.

Ian Hewitt

Ian Hewitt is the former Club Chairman of Wimbledon and received an MBE in 2024 for his services to tennis. 

He was succeeded by Deborah Jevans CBE, who was also in the box today.

Guy Kinnings

Guy Kinnings is the Chief Executive Officer of golf’s European Tour Group and Ryder Cup Europe.

Guy, 62, has been a prominent figure in the sport for more than 30 years, having worked with some of the world’s best professional golfers while he was a lawyer at sports media company IMG.

Appointed as CEO of the European Tour Group in April 2024, Guy is only the fifth person to hold that post in the Tour’s 53-year history

James Mayer

James Mayer is President of global food and beverage company Danone in the UK and Ireland.

Based in London, James is passionate about sports and, according to the company website, has coached children’s football and rugby for 15 years.

Leon Smith and Paul Tisdale 

Leon Smith, OBE was appointed captain of the Great Britain Davis Cup team in 2010 and took the team to victory for the first time since 1936 at the 2015 cup.

The Scottish born coach, 49, has worked with several high-profile players, most notable Andy Murray from the age of 11 to 15. The pair worked together again in 2006 for the French Open when the player was without a coach.

Leon’s guest is Paul Tisdale former Exeter City manager and current director of football at Celtic football club.

Having managed Exeter city from 2006 to 2018 Paul, 52, became the longest-serving manager at one club in the English Football League.

Prior to managing he had his own career as a player from 1991 where he played for teams including Southampton and Bristol City but his time on the pitch was cut short by an injury at age 26.

Mark Nicholas and Kirsten Northcott

Mark Nicholas, 67, is a cricket commentator and former cricketer and broadcaster.

As a professional sportsman, he captained Hampshire between 1978 and 1995.

Mark became President of the Marylebone Cricket Club in October 2023, having taken over from Stephen Fry.

He attended Wimbledon with wife Kirsten Northcott.

Lee Styslinger III and Mr Erik Engstrom 

Lee Styslinger III is an American business man and co-owner of Altec Inc. which provides products and services to the electric, telecommunications, and contractor markets in around 100 countries.

Lee is also a policy advisor and previously advised then-President George W. Bush on trade policy and has been a member of President Donald Trump’s Manufacturing Council since February 2017.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic the businessman was a selected by Trump as a member of the Great American Economic Revival Advisory Council to lead the reopening of the US economy.

He is joined by Erik Engstrom, a Swedish businessman and chief executive officer of RELX.

Tom Okker 

Tom Okker, from the Netherlands, is a former tennis player.

The 81-year-old played professionally from the mid-1960s to 1980, during which time he won the 1973 French Open Doubles and the 1976 US Open Doubles.

Since he retired from tennis, has has pursued an interest in art and opened two galleries in Amsterdam.

Roger and Alison Taylor

Roger Taylor, MBE is a former British tennis player whose career spanned nearly 30 years from 1958 to 1982.

The 83-year-old ranked British number one in 1973 and 1974 and achieve 31 career singles titles during his time on the court.

Roger’s career highlights include reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals three times in 1967, 1970, and 1973 and winning the US Open doubles championship in 1971 and 1972.

The former player is with his wife, Alison who has been a tennis coach at her own south west London club.

Nick Webborn 

Professor Nick Webborn, OBE is the newly appointed Chair of UK Sport.

He is a leading sports medicine specialist and was the Chief Medical Officer for the London 2012 Paralympics and for the Invictus games in 2014.

Th expert played a key role in securing London’s bid for the 2012 games and in 2016 was awarded an OBE for services to Paralympic Sports Medicine and the British Paralympic Association.

The professor was recognised once again in 2022 for a CBE in the New Years Honours List, for services to Sport and Sports Medicine.

John Witherow 

John Witherow was appointed editor of The Sunday Times in 1994 and became editor of The Times in 2013 before stepping down in 2022.

The journalist was born in Johannesburg and relocated to England in the 1960s where he completed his schooling and university studies.

John is joined by fellow journalist Edward Rousesel who is the current Head Of Digital at The Times and The Sunday Times.
