NEW DELHI: The Kerala police on Saturday registered a case in connection with the food parcels bearing images of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Wayanad. The case, filed under BNS Section 173 and the Representation of the People Act, comes after the Election Commission flying squad and local police seized around 30 kits ahead of the constituency bypolls scheduled for November 13.
Congress officials said the kits were meant for survivors of the July 30 landslide in Wayanad, while the ruling Left Front claimed they were meant to influence voters ahead of the by-polls. The kits, found in a flour mill near the residence of a local Congress leader, contained basic items such as tea, sugar and rice.
Besides Rahul and Priyanka, the kits also contain photos of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, according to PTI sources. An official confirmed that investigations were underway to verify the intended use of the kits and their possible impact on the elections.

United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Priyanka Gandhi will face CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri and BJP’s Navya Haridas in the upcoming polls.
The Wayanad by-election became vital when Rahul Gandhi relinquished this constituency and opted to retain Rae Bareli after winning both the seats in this year’s general elections.
