Ceilidhs is hosted for solo Scots as an alternative to ‘app-tired’ singles
THE festive period is a lively time of year when celebrations take place and families and friends come together.
But it can also be a lonely time of year for many, even those of us who don’t have a partner.
As December quickly approaches and people across the country prepare for Christmas, two businesswomen are trying to help seasonal singles.
Jennie Poynton and Sarah Spanswick organize festive ceilidhs for solo Scots.
The two events will be held at The Rowantree in Edinburgh on November 28 and at Box Hub in Glasgow on December 5.
Jennie said: “People are suffering from dating app fatigue. They’re tired of swiping left or right, hoping for a connection that often doesn’t feel real.
“Pip Social is about overcoming the awkwardness and creating a community of like-minded singles who can come together for fun times, real conversations and real connections.
“We want to show singles that Christmas is not just about being together under the mistletoe.
“It’s about celebrating who you are, where you are and the people around you.”
Sarah said: “Men are often reluctant to go to events alone. They are not as brave as women when it comes to showing up alone.
“We are here to break that taboo. Pip Social is about normalizing being single, and giving people the chance to meet other single people who are not only interested in dating, but also making real friendships and having fun.”
She added: “This is not a boring event. If you’ve never done a ceilidh, no problem.
“We’ll teach you the moves. Just bring your energy, your Christmas spirit and your best dancing shoes.”
Jennie and Sarah were born in England, but moved north of the border because they thought it would be a better place to be single.
After leaving their jobs in business consulting and purchasing, they founded Pip Social to provide an alternative to dating apps.
The pair organize meet-up events to help single people expand their social circles, build trust and possibly spark romance.
They hosted their first meeting in Edinburgh last June and haven’t looked back.
On Wednesday evening Pip Social is organizing a board games evening in Glasgow.
Jennie and Sarah are also looking to expand their ticketed events to Aberdeen and Dundee.
