Celebrity hairstylist shares the nighttime ritual his mother swore by for hair growth
A celebrity hairstylist has revealed the nightly ritual his mother wore in his tops to promote hair growth.
Gustav Fouche said that a consistent at-home routine is one of the “most effective” ways to lengthen your hair.
Push owns a salon in London, England, and counts Kate Hudson, LeAnne Rimes and Gal Gadot among his top clients.
In an interview with The US Sun, he shared must-have tips for growing longer hair fast.
MOM KNOWS BEST
According to Fouche, hair care routines should focus on prolonging the anagen phase of hair growth.
He revealed that natural remedies like rosemary oil are “not effective” for hair growth, but can be beneficial for a healthy scalp.
“One of the most effective home remedies I can recommend is maintaining a consistent hair care routine,” he said.
“Make sure you wash your hair regularly and rinse out all products thoroughly to prevent buildup that can hinder hair growth.”
He said that the hair should also be brushed every night to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp.
“My mother always swore by the habit of brushing her hair a hundred times every night, as she believed it invigorated the scalp and promoted healthy hair growth,” he said.

“While these tips may seem simple, they can contribute to the overall health of your hair when incorporated into your daily routine.”
NEW TOOLS
Fouche revealed that using “hard brushes” tops the list of common hair care mistakes that hinder hair growth.
He said the wrong type of brush can cause breakage and damage.
“Secondly, products containing silicone can create a barrier that prevents the scalp from breathing, which can negatively impact hair growth,” he said.
“Another major issue is improper scalp care.
Failure to wash your scalp properly or rinse out products thoroughly can lead to hair buildup, which can clog hair follicles and hinder hair growth.
“In addition, not washing your hair regularly can lead to a build-up of sebum, which causes inflammation and can potentially lead to hair loss.”
While heat styling tools can damage hair, improper use of these tools, such as excessive heat or lack of heat protection, poses a greater risk to hair health.

Many people know that heat styling tools can be damaging to their hair.
However, according to Fouche, it is the incorrect use of these tools that poses the greatest risks to hair health, such as excessive heat or a lack of heat protection.
POWERFUL PRODUCTS
Fouche said it’s important not to style your hair in “tight ponytails” if you want to grow longer hair.
He said red light therapy may also be useful as an adjunct to over-the-counter treatments.
“One of the most effective options is Regain, which contains Minoxidil,” he said.
“Minoxidil is clinically proven to stimulate hair growth and can be very effective with consistent use.
“It is a well-researched and reliable product in the field of hair loss treatment.”
Fouche recommended reading the label of hair products you use regularly to make sure they don’t contain harmful ingredients.
“Very strong sulfates, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), can dry out the scalp and hinder the hair’s natural thickness,” he said.
“Additionally, various silicones, such as dimethicone, trimethicone, ammoniomethicone, and ammoniomethicanol, can create a barrier that prevents the scalp and hair from breathing, which can also hinder hair growth.
“Avoiding these ingredients can help maintain a healthier scalp environment that is conducive to hair growth.”
FOOD FOR THE THOUGHT
Fouche said it is “crucial” to pay attention to a balanced diet, as the body prioritizes essential functions over hair health.
A blood test can be useful to check that you are getting the optimal amounts of nutrients and minerals needed to promote growth.
“Make sure your ferritin levels are above 70, as ferritin is essential for iron absorption,” he said.
“While normal ferritin levels are between 50 and 150, a level above 70 is recommended for optimal hair health.
“If your ferritin levels are low, even high iron levels are not used effectively, which can lead to more hair loss.”
He said that omega-3 fatty acids and zinc are equally important for hair health.
“Adequate protein intake is also essential for maintaining healthy hair,” he said.
“Vitamin B, including biotin, is important, but be careful with biotin supplements, as excessive amounts can sometimes have adverse effects.
“It is best to have blood tests done to determine if you need biotin supplements.”
