‘Cheap sloganeering, trampled on national emblem’: J&K speaker reprimands BJP MLAs | India News – Times of India
He added that the BJP’s demand for the special status resolution was not under the power of the Speaker.
The Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution urging the Center to set up a constitutional mechanism for restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was revoked on August 5, 2019. Following this, the BJP MLAs stormed the House well and tore copies of the resolution, raising slogans like “Speaker Hai Hai”, “Jai Shree Ram”, “Anti-Jammu Agenda Nahi Chalega”, “Pakistani Agenda Nahin” among others Chalega”.
“These kinds of cheap slogans are not done. They belong to the ruling party at the Centre. They should keep that in mind and they should behave better than others. Their behavior is not right,” he said.
“Yesterday, some members entered the Well of the House and stood on the chair of the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly. There is the national emblem on his chair and they stepped on the national emblem with their shoes on. As speaker: How is that possible? Do I tolerate that? When I saw it yesterday, I felt extremely sad. After all, we are Indians first and foremost. We must respect our flag and emblem,” he added.
The BJP members have accused the president of bias with one named Sunil Sharma saying, “We have reports that you (speaker) called a meeting of ministers yesterday and drafted the resolution yourself.”
Reacting to these allegations, Liever said that if the BJP members had no confidence in him, they should move a no-confidence motion.
“They should table a motion of no confidence. If the House approves it, I will come back on my own whether any member tells me or not. But they won’t do that either, they just keep raising slogans ” he said.
