- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completed his move to Chelsea on the day of the deadline
- He played 59 minutes of their Champions League match with Dinamo Zagreb
- But that turned out to be Thomas Tuchel’s last game as Chelsea manager
- Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has reportedly reassured Aubameyang about his role
- Tuchel and Aubameyang have worked together successfully at Dortmund
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang “is reassured that he has not been signed just to please former manager Thomas Tuchel and that he has a role to play at Chelsea.”
Chelsea completed the £10.3 million purchase of the Barcelona striker on the day of the transfer deadline last week, reuniting him with Tuchel after their time working together at Borussia Dortmund.
Aubameyang, 33, had been looking forward to working with Tuchel again, but the German was sacked on Wednesday after their Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

The Gabon international played for 59 minutes in Croatia before being replaced by Armando Broja in what turned out to be Tuchel’s last game.
Despite Tuchel’s quick exit that sparked criticism of Chelsea’s new ownership, Daily Telegraph report that the player is reassured and looking forward to playing under aspiring manager Graham Potter.
While owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, who are in control together, addressed the Chelsea squad following Tuchel’s sacking, Aubameyang was also personally called to explain the situation.
Of course, Aubameyang had expected Tuchel to be his manager at Stamford Bridge and this was a factor in the decision to return to Premier League football.

The Telegraph said Aubameyang was reassured by the explanations from Chelsea’s owners and believes the club wanted him, despite the likelihood of Tuchel being sacked.
Potter will be in the dugout on Saturday for the Premier League trip to Fulham with Aubameyang likely to be seen wearing a protective face mask after injuries sustained in a violent robbery at his family home in Barcelona last week.
It is hoped that Aubameyang will be able to play maskless in a week or two.
